WOODSTOCK WEEK-END CELEBRATION

As my faithful readers know, I’ve been raving about A Night With Janis Joplin, the show that’s currently running at the Pasadena Playhouse. (You can read my most recent review here, if you haven’t already: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/theatremusic-one-night-with-janis-joplin.)

Well, now you LA folks will have a chance to hear some of that magical music free this week! The Playhouse is doing a special Woodstock night tomorrow, Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 6PM, that the public can attend. It’s in the Playhouse Plaza Courtyard, which is directly across from the Pasadena Playhouse Courtyard. (As a pal of mine stated, so many courtyards!)

The soiree is to commemorate the anniversary of Janis Joplin’s historic performance at Woodstock on August 16, 1969. To help us celebrate, some of the cast members from the show, including Kacee Clanton, (whom I just lauded on Twitter the other night,) will perform a fifteen-twenty minute outdoor Woodstock-type concert, singing songs that various musicians performed at the actual Woodstock Music Festival. That ought to be fun, don’t ya think?! Kacee and the ladies are all true powerhouses. Lucky there isn’t a roof on the courtyard to blow off!!!

600_437220343There will be other festivities surrounding the music, as well. There will be a “Woodstock-themed” costume contest, with the prize being a $100 gift certificate to redwhite+bluezz, the excellent restaurant next door that I’ve written about several times. If you get hungry, (even without the pot that permeated the real festival,) you’ll have three fun food choices: the Lobsta Truck, The Grilled Cheese Truck, and best of all, redwhite+bluezz will be offering a special deal of a Janis-inspired cocktail paired with one of their delish appetizers, for the appropriate-for-the-occasion price of $19.69. (Get it? 1969!!!)

You can also visit the Made For Pearl pop-up shop on the premises, that I told you about in my review of the show opening. Janis Joplin’s niece designed the clothing line with her aunt’s style in mind.

The Playhouse will be offering a limited number of $24 rush tickets, (such a deal!,) for the rest of the week-end’s performances, (hence the moniker “Woodstock Week-end Celebration,”) so, if you haven’t seen it yet, this would be your chance.

  2. Seeing as rush tickets are usually $20 each, sounds like there’s now a “Woodstock” surcharge… how very 2015.

    • I actually don’t know anything about rush tickets, anywhere! I’m always curious as to what that means. But I think those r tix for day of, correct? And these r tix for any night, I think, but I’m not sure. You’d have to check with the Playhouse.

But I love your comment! ;)
