SUE WONG RUNWAY SHOW

Ah, fashion; I haven’t even begun to wear boots and tights yet, yet here come the Spring runway shows! But, in my modern role as a “social influencer,” I appreciate being in on what’s ahead, so I’m always happy to attend them, when I can.

My own modeling career started off by doing runway, and I think it ended as my favorite category to work in. (Fashion illustration made me faint, and I find too many faults with myself in photographs.) Live shows are exciting.

All photos by Karen Salkin.

I loved Sue Wong’s collection that we previewed two weeks ago! (Sorry I couldn’t tell you about it sooner, but the Emmys and related activities just got in the way.) The show was at LA Live’s Conga Room, and was filled to the rafters, with standing room only.

The collection of upscale formal wear is billed as celebrating “modern lifestyles through the lens of nature’s seasonal metamorphosis.” I couldn’t have put it better myself! (Mainly because I don’t write in those flowery terms.) The gowns were gorgeous! (But several of the models weren’t. Please, enough with the swayback posture already. Chiropractors must love these women!)

As usual, I must tell you about the whole evening in order of its line-up. I loved the whole well-done event. There was a cocktail hour (or two) up front, giving us all a chance to mingle and catch-up during the crazy pre-Emmys week.

The dramatic drum trio opening act.

Then the show began with a 3-D presentation on several large screens, (of course, they provided the viewing glasses,) accompanied by a fabulous drum trio. (I’m sorry I don’t know their name(s), but I couldn’t find it in the program.) Then the fashions began.

This was perhaps the most organized fashion show I’ve ever been to! It featured all dramatic, beaded evening wear, but they progressed by color group, beginning with beiges and ending with black creations. They were all just beautiful.

Everything was perfect, from the stunning shoes to the ornate, detailed purses to the simple beige nails to the jewelry choices, which included simple rings and bracelets, yet fabulous, giant neckwear. And the feathered updos on the ladies added a spectacular touch, as did Sue’s well-deserved bow at the curtain.

There were two great aspects of being seated in the VIP section, (besides that my broken back was grateful to not have to stand.) One was the goodie bags that included Sue Wong’s gently-beaded chiffon shawls. But even better than that was being treated so well by up-and-coming PR person, Joseph Carmer. He looked out for us all without a hint of the bossiness that accompanies so many other people who work events like this. He kept it all under control while being uber-respectful the whole time. He made it a pleasure for all concerned.

Pizza and shishito peppers, that we plated together for the photo.

Speaking of pleasure, I must laud the wonderful after-party, held at LA Market in the neighboring Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The food at this Kerry Simon restaurant was absolutely delish! And it was served in the most special way that I’ve even seen at a soiree; they circulated event menus that featured seven great food choices and two desserts. We could choose anything and everything off it!!! And they brought all the dishes around if you didn’t get the chance to order, and your table could share it all. It was a restaurant-goer’s dream. The Caesar salad with shrimp was heavenly, the Kobe beef sliders were out-of-this-world, and the Margherita pizza with tomatoes and basil was so healthful that we didn’t feel guilty eating several slices!

We ended the evening with their different-yet-delicious chocolate chip cookies, and a look around the interesting hotel that my friend and I had each been to only once before. Rocking our new Sue Wong evening wraps, of course!

I wish that all fashion events would be like this one!
