HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY 2024

This column is either going to be the upper I mean it to be, or perhaps a downer to some lovers out there. (If that’s the case for you, sorry about that.)

This is an image that defines true love for me!

As I always advise, Valentine’s Day is really nothing special, except to retailers, so please do not feel sad if you don’t have a love to share it with. It’s just one day, for goodness sake!

Actually, it’s just about twelve hours because of sleep and getting ready and working, shopping, etc. So that doesn’t leave much time for stressing over it, anyway.

I do have to admit that I don’t know what it’s like to not have a Valentine because I’ve always had a boyfriend since I was fifteen! (And sometimes two at a time!) But I don’t remember most of them being very romantic dudes, so Valentine’s Day has never been a big deal to me. I’ve honestly never felt hurt when my baes have not done enough, or often anything, to celebrate it.

Mr. X and I do occasionally do something special for the holiday, like see the Disney classic Lady and the Tramp in a theatre, or go out to lunch or dinner or, most happily and appropriately for romance, afternoon tea. But, I promise you, I’m just as happy to stay home and ignore it all.

Actually, we are doing something different today! We’ll be going to a specialty eye doctor for me! It’s the only appointment I could get for months, and I will love seeing him finally, so there you have it! Happy Valentine’s Day to us.

And there is one really good perk of today, for everyone, which will actually begin tomorrow. Have you guessed it? It’s…all the candy will go on sale, in a big way, now that the holiday is officially over. So that’s a universal win! Yay!
