EVENTS/BEAUTY/FASHION: THREE PARTIES IN ONE NIGHT

THREE PARTIES IN ONE NIGHT

I actually attended four parties in one night, the week before my second hand surgery, as sort-of a last hurrah before I would be drugged-out and exhausted for a little while. I really didn’t know if I would last through them, but thankfully, with my uber ice pack along for the ride, that’s exactly what I did.

The first one was nothing to write home about, (so I’m not,) but the other three were. So here are all the deets, in the order that Judy and I lived them.

PLANET DAILIES’ NEW DESSERT MENU UNVEILING

After the disappointing first event of the evening, we were happy to find that this one was a winner! I hadn’t even realized that this eatery, part of the Planet Hollywood empire, opened in Farmers Market about a year ago. The patio is considered the actual restaurant, while the indoor bar/lounge, complete with happening music, is called Mixology 101. You can enjoy the food in either area.

There was nary a crumb at the evening’s first fete, so when we arrived at this sweets party, we had to sample at least their surprisingly delicious sliders before we could move on to the desserts, each more heavenly than the one before.

We couldn’t get to them all because of our time constraints, but what we did try, we loved. Judy, who’s far from the dessert maven I am, couldn’t stop exclaiming over their tiramisu. She said it was “out of this world.” And even though I’m primarily a chocolate fan, which means that I automatically enjoyed their chocolate bread pudding, I was equally thrilled with their non-chocolate entries.

We began with the crispy fried ice cream, and I would have been satisfied to stop there. (The only note I wrote on that one was “OMG!”) But I went almost as bananas over their banana spring rolls served with vanilla ice cream.

To make the soirée more festive, shot pairings were featured with each mini dessert. Judy tried two and said they were delicious. (I actually had never seen her drink before, in one thousand years of friendship, so that she enjoyed them was a big deal.)

COVER FX CC CREAM LAUNCH

Then we moved over to the SLS Hotel for a cocktail party to celebrate the launch of Cover FX’s new CC Cream. What’s a CC cream, you might ask? Why, the updated version of the BB creams, of course!

BB stands for “beauty balm,” and CC stands for “color correcting.” They’re face creams with many ingredients to help with a slew of different skin conditions at once. Cover FX calls their’s “a do-it-all cream that provides colour and complexion correction with time release anti-aging benefits.” My favorite part is that it includes SPF 30. And that they put the “u” in the word color! Very continental.

This was an interesting way to launch the product. The party was in a room off the SLS terrace, where we guests were welcome to convene, as well. The passed hors d’oeuvres were absolutely delicious, especially the tiny crispy cones containing guacamole. I could have eaten a hundred of those!

But we didn’t just mingle and eat and drink; there were a couple of clever stations we could visit throughout the night. We were treated to a consultation with a make-up artist who chose the right shade for each complexion, and we left with a full-size tube of it in our goodie bags. We were also encouraged to meet with a scientist who worked on the formula, and he showed us little beakers of each ingredient. I almost couldn’t tear Judy away from him; as a sun-worshiper her whole life, she had a lot of questions of how to correct so much sun damage.

So to recap: great food, fully-stocked bar, beautiful surroundings, a lot of useful information from experts, and goodie bags with full-sized products. Cover FX–you really know how to launch a product!

DESIGNER AND THE MUSE FASHION EVENT

For our last event of the evening, we segued over to Sofitel for an incredible event to kick-off yet another LA Fashion Week. (Doesn’t it seem like there are a whole lot of Fashion Weeks???) Held in the recently-renamed Riviera 31 Lounge, it was informal modeling of gorgeous gowns from several designers, accompanied by their show business muses.

When we could tear ourselves away from drooling over the gorgeous fashions, there were as slow of other activities inside the party. We noticed beautiful food, both stationery and passed, but at that point, we were too full from the previous events of the evening to take part in this repast. There were also several bars, and some stations of sexy lingerie for purchase.

But the best to me was the complimentary brow-shaping that was going on in the last area we visited. With my hands being messed-up all summer, trust me when I tell you that my grooming techniques have been suffering quite a bit. So I was thrilled to have a brow tech whip my brows into shape! It was kind-of a strange thing to have done in the dark at a nighttime soirée, but I can’t tell you how much I appreciated it. I was happier to see this area than even the beautiful food!

What a successful evening this was! I can’t even express my gratitude at the fact that I mustered all the pre-surgery strength I could find to go out that night. And I really wanted Judy to see the kind of nights I often have when I’m not preoccupied with issues like I have been for these last three months; she doesn’t come out with me often, so I’m glad she got to experience good events.
