FRED SEGAL SALE

Lucky you guys—I’m letting you know about the Fred Segal Santa Monica sale with just about a week left to go. But perhaps you should start following my tweets, (@KarenSalkin,) so that you don’t miss out on events like this in the future!

The private pre-sale event was so fun that I have to tell you about it. Boy, those Fred Segal peeps really know how to throw a party! I’ve been to several there, and none have been disappointing. To make the shopping even sweeter, there were multiple candy bars. And several beverage stations, both alcoholic and natural. And even a vodka-snow cone machine!

DJs in both buildings of the compound made it extra-special; the beats were good, and not too loud to have trouble asking your friend if the pants made your rear look fat! (Though some people would have preferred to not hear the honest answer loud and clear, I’m sure.)

The candies were the highlights for us, (outside of getting great deals on designer duds, of course!,) so here are the deets on those:

Not only did I enjoy the Epiphany Chocolates, I liked the owner! She just told us the flavors, never tooting her own horn, like so many others do when rolling out a new product; she let the chocolates speak for themselves. And that they did. But, until I got home and looked at the “legend” sheet, (to know exactly which flavor is which,) I had no idea that they each have a clever name, such as John Lemon and Wendy Darling. You gotta love a girl who names her confections after a Peter Pan character! (Weird coincidence—I had just referenced Wendy’s growing-up in an email to a friend two days before!)

The Gummy Cubs from the Organic Candy factory are free of everything that’s bad for you. Yet, according to Mr. X, (who’s an expert in all things candy,) they taste so good! (When I saw them, I just knew I had to bring a bag home to him.) They were created by the mother of a little girl who wanted her daughter to eat right, so I totally trust them in the health department.

But for all the things that aren’t that great for you, but totally fun, the store put together its own red, white, and blue-themed candy bar. In addition to the obligatory M&Ms, there were some chocolate chip pastries and brownies. (The poor girls who tended the latter had to keep explaining to the, let’s say “distracted,” customers that the ones that had white powder on them were just the same brownies with powdered sugar on them! Duh!!!) Because most of us appreciate savory with sweet, the bar also featured pretzels, and mixtures with cheese crackers, etc.

All sales should be this much fun! We just have to try on the clothing before we indulge in the treats!
