CELEB SIGHTINGS 51
I’m just getting over a month’s worth of pneumonia, so, unless a celebrity was appearing in my sick room, I haven’t spied any in that time.
But, there was a lot of activity for the first two months of the year, (especially during the Oscars,) which I haven’t had time to tell you about before, so here goes with those. (My favorite one was on February 9th! Loved it!)
1/4/17 Viggo Mortensen in Beverly Hills, not only speaking before and after a private screening of his film, Captain Fantastic, but also chatting-up the guests at the after-party! (He told us all that he had a cold, though, so we could stay away, if we chose. And I did! You don’t have to warn me twice about germs these days!!!)
1/6/17 Riley Smith, the male star of CW’s on-the-bubble-to-be-cancelled show Frequency, (he also appeared in a six-episode arc on Nashville, as an a-hole,) in Beverly Hills at the Secret Room Golden Globes Suite. I love an actor who has such an easy name to type! (You can read all about that entire event here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suite-secret-room-events-golden-globes-style-lounge-2017.)
1/7/17 Perennial nice guy, Tommy Chong, having a blast in Hollywood at the GBK Gifting Suite in honor of the Golden Globes. (You can read about that whole event here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suite-gbk-pre-golden-globes-lounge-2017.)
1/9/17 The occasion was totally sad, but it was good to see a couple of celebs show up to pay their respects to Mark Taper Forum founder, Gordon Davidson, at his memorial in downtown LA. I spied Beau Bridges sitting near me, and I’m proud that my pal, Jason Ritter, was there representing the young ’uns.
1/29/17 Old school TV star, (does anyone remember Starsky and Hutch?,) Paul Michael Glaser at the beautiful Malibu brunch at Arthaus, the stunning home of gown designer Sue Wong. (Click here to read about the whole fabulous brunch: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/partyfashion-sue-wong-malibu-brunch-soiree.)
1/31/17 This one was very exciting—Motown greats Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy, Jr., walking down the aisle right next to me at the Los Angeles opening night of their Broadway tour show, Motown, The Musical. I’ve met them both a ton of times before, especially Smokey, but they are always uber-exciting to witness in person. (You can read my review of that whole evening here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/theatre-motown-the-musical-2.) [Note: Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson are the two men in the middle of the picture at the top of the page. Duh. Photo by Karen Salkin.]
2/9/17 My old pal, Arsenio Hall, in West Hollywood, at a party during Grammys Week. We hadn’t seen each other in years, and the look on his face when he spied me is something that I will always remember! (I also bumped into Cuba Gooding, Jr. on my way out, but that was so anti-climactic, after my reunion with Arsenio.) (You can read all the details right here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/party-winners-photo-exhibit-and-soiree.)
2/10/17 Rapper Bre-Z, who plays Freda Gatz on Empire, in Hollywood at the Girlfriends and Champagne suite. (Yes, I do know that she’s not really a celebrity, per se, but rather a working actor/rapper. But she’s on a big show, so I’m sure many of you know who she is.) (You can read about what went on there here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suite-girlfriends-champagne-grammys-gifting-suite.)
2/11/17 Marsai Martin, the little girl from Black-ish, at GBK’s Grammys Suite in Beverly Hills. (You can read about the whole event here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suites-gbk-grammys-lounge-2017.)
2/14/17 Edward James Olmos, along with so many past cast members of Zoot Suit, at the opening of the latest version of the iconic play at the Taper in downtown LA. And they were all siting right next to me!!! (You can read my full review here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/theatre-zoot-suit.)
2/15/17 Perennial songster Stephen Bishop at a (not serious-condition kind-of) doctor’s office in Beverly Hills.
2/22/17 Before the show began on opening night of Fun Home at the Ahmanson in downtown LA, I saw Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, the little girl who plays Lily on Modern Family, and then at the valet parking area afterwards, there was Happy Day’s Marion Ross. What an interesting juxtaposition: two females, both from family sitcoms, one way in the past and the other in the very present! Loving it. (And here’s my review of the musical: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/theatre-fun-home.)
2/23/17 There were several fun sightings at Doris Bergman’s Beverly Hills luncheon and gifting suite for the Oscars. From Dancing With The Stars, female pro dancers Karina Smirnoff and Edyta Slawinskaya, (who still has the best body I’ve ever seen!,) actor (and former nominee) Bruce Dern, and my own good friend, and nominee this year for producing Hacksaw Ridge, David Permut, who’s just adorable. (And here’s the rest of that story: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suite-doris-bergmans-valentine-romance-oscar-style-lounge-party-3.)
2/24/17 At Debbie Durkin’s brunch and gifting suite for the Oscars, right in the heart of Beverly Hills, I saw Beau Bridges and Lonnie Chavis, who plays young Randall on This Is Us, right after I had a delicious brunch with my aforementioned pal, David Permut, who produced the Oscar-nominated film, Hacksaw Ridge. (You can read all the details here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suite-debbie-durkins-ecoluxe-lounge-for-the-oscars-2017.)
2/25/17 Viola Davis and Anthony Anderson, though not together, (so let’s not start any rumors!!!,) at GBK’s Oscars Suite at a private estate in Beverly Hills. (If you’re curious about the whole event, click here: itsnotaboutme.tv/news/gifting-suite-gbk-oscars-suite-2017.)
And that is it…for now!

Didn’t people always mistake Stephen Bishop for your boyfriend back in the day?
Hi Curtis.
Not that I know of! Stephen was a fan of my TV show, Karen’s Restaurant Revue, and we bumped into each other occasionally, but not enough for anyone to think we were together.
Thanks for asking, though.
Karen
