GBK PRODUCTIONS & ANGELENO MAGAZINE OSCARS WEEK PARTY

What a fun, easygoing soiree this was!

I had been invited to several very happening pre-Oscars events around town for that same night, but I was exhausted; I let the mountains ahead wear me out, anticipating all my Oscars gifting suites later on in the week. The thought of most of the other parties was making me crazy, but since I have been to many GBK Productions and Angeleno Magazine events in the past, I knew I would be very comfortable at this one.

And I’m happy to say that I chose absolutely correctly that night! (Here’s the video I made about the fete as soon as I got home from it. I’m sharing it even though my exhaustion made me a tad punchy, as you will see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG5BPv0PUTA&feature=youtu.be.)

It was at the La Peer Hotel, right on the border of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, which makes that neighborhood doubly interesting.

My friend, Jan, and I got there relatively early, and the place was already jumping. The party took place all throughout the lobby, the bar, and the pool area. (We even saw someone in the pool for a bit! I don’t know if she was a jumper or a faller, but it was definitely a point of interest to some of the guests for awhile.)

What an eclectic group of revelers this was! There were all ages and all manner of dress. We didn’t know where to look first!

The highlight of the night for me was—wait for it—no, not the food—but running into my best bud of old, Oscar-nominated producer (for 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge,) David Permut. He’s been at Film Festivals for all of 2020 so far, so it was fun to finally catch-up and get his opinions on what will be coming up this year. Nobody loves and appreciates movies more than this guy does! Movies are to him what crayons are to me! We love them so much!

But, of course, let me not lead you guys astray–the catering came in a close second to hanging with David. I so appreciate a function with real food! And this one had two of my favorite categories. First up were fresh tacos being cooked-up right in front of our eyes. They thought of everything—there was a choice of steak, chicken, pork, or veggies, with rice and beans, and a serve-yourself condiment bar. All very thoughtful. And delicious!!! And the extra good news was that the line never got too long because not only were the taco-makers swift, but, shock of all shocks for an LA soiree, the guests were pretty well-behaved!

When we finished our delish meal, I noticed…a dessert bar! OMG, was it good! Uber-creative Orange County bakery A Little Something Sweet had every kind of sweet treat imaginable! (And some items none of us ever thought of!) There were at least three kinds of little tasty parfaits, two kinds of petite fours, a trio of other pastries, and two kinds of cookies—scrumptious little chocolate chip ones, (which Jan went absolutely berserk over—I’ve never seen her skinny self that in love with a food item before!,) and sugar cookies, each one decorated to celebrate the Oscars! (I think I won Best Actress!!! Of course.) It was all just perfect. (And I sooo appreciated that all of the tidbits had signs telling us exactly what they were. Too bad for everyone else, though, that I appeared to be the only one smart enough to use my phone’s flashlight on the display!)

There was also a DJ and a band out by the pool, along with a photo booth. We did not want for anything that night.

I had planned to spend only an hour there, but wound-up doing double that time, which is unusual for me.

The whole event made me look even more forward to visiting GBK’s Oscars gifting lounge, a few days hence, than I usually do. And I’ll give you all the skinny on that event next week, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, if you’re craving more deets on the above fete, remember to check-out my YouTube video about it all, right here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG5BPv0PUTA&feature=youtu.be.)
