FATFITFUN’S END OF SUMMER SOIREE

This fellow on-line magazine consistently throws the best fetes of the year. And each one is different. They all feature good food, a fun bar, a personal service or two, goodie bags, and a few surprises. So, as long as I’m in town, I never turn down an invitation from FabFitFun.alic

Their recent “End of Summer Soiree” was really spot-on. The atmosphere felt like exactly what it was billed to be. It was in the evening, at the rooftop lounge of the Sixty Hotel in Beverly Hills, (which is aptly named Above Sixty,) and all the activities were around the pool. I was in a little dress, but, for the first time all summer, I added a hoodie, (a fancy cream-colored lace one, of course,) which really signaled the end of summer to me. I knew by the end of the night that my attire for the next outdoor party will be pants and boots.

My friend Alice and I mingled with one of the most eclectic group of Angelenos I’ve seen in awhile. (They all had being hip in common, though.) I got to re-connect with several old pals, who are not as the usual Hollywood party, which made it even more special. Ali said the party was a “great way to say good-bye to the summer!” And we both loved the “really cool and happening rooftop cabana setting.”

As we entered, the first thing we spied was a table full of fabulous jewelry. It was by Sterling Forever, and they were gifting everyone their choice of seven fun pieces including earrings, a “very chic” bracelet made of leather braid and gold metal, and suede neck “strings.”

Then we visited Sugarfina, who presented the most upscale candy bar I’ve ever seen. It included four kinds of sweets I’ve never even heard of before, plus tiny champagne gummies.

All sugared-out, we settled into an alcove area for chair massages, courtesy of Soothe, a mobile massage company. D’Lea worked-out my knotted back, while Alice said that Ashley “got all the right spots” on her stressed-out shoulders.

Then we were finally ready for some refreshments. They passed several appetizers, (which Alice called “totally summer fun food,”) including cups of mac n cheese, skinny fries, and chicken skewers. But the piece de resistance was the full barbeque bar. It was done so smartly. They didn’t break it out until later in the evening, (when the people who imbibers would need some food to soak up the alcohol,) and, rather than leaving the burgers and hot dogs out there, for the first few guests to grab-up, we each got to order the one we wanted, and receive it hot off the grill. It was the first hot dog I had eaten in a year(!) (because I’m not supposed to eat red meat anymore,) and let me tell you—it was absolutely heavenly!!! And that’s not just because I haven’t had one recently; it was an exceptionally delicious one on its own. They augmented those items with grilled corn on the cob and a perfect salad. It was the prefect meal at the right time.

The DJ kept the happening vibe going all night with just the right beats. And at several points in the seating areas, we got to peruse their summer beauty boxes. They were really extra-beautiful this time. They looked to contain a bunch of what Alice called “great summer fun items,” including several beauty helpers, a yellow tote bag, (perfect for the beach,) and even a bright pink yoga towel! I can’t wait to see what the upcoming Fall ones will feature.

As we exited, we each received the absolute best goodie bag I’ve ever seen! I don’t know how they do it time after time. You all know that I’m somewhat of a product maven, but FabFitFun constantly fills their party goodie bags, (and their seasonal subscription boxes, too,) with items that are new to me. Just taking each new discovery out of the bag feels like Christmas day. And using them is even better! (When Alice went through hers, she told me that it was “chock full of excitement!” We did have some favorites in there. Alice’s were: the LeSportsac make-up bag with three different compartments, Deco Miami nail polish in Black Like My Soul (she said, “It’s perfect for day edginess or an evening out,”) and Amica Perk-up Dry Shampoo, which is great to “carry in your purse to refresh anytime.” My faves were: Orly polish in TLC (you see how Alice and I are yin and yang, eh?,) Butter London’s new Glazen Eye Gloss (OMG!,) and, believe it or not, a cute mug in a shade of blue that almost matches my eyes!

Thanks, FabFitFun, for helping us to not feel so bad that summer is now officially over. Even for us Angelenos.
