KAREN'S RANTS: THE BLINDSIDE SNUBS

THE BLINDSIDE SNUBS

I’ll post my Oscar Thoughts and Oscar Suites columns in the next couple of days, but for now, I have to get one thing off my chest. It’s about Sandra Bullock, and I have more to say on this particular situation than the one quick sentence I would put in my bigger Oscar Musings column.

I had met her before she was famous, when we were two of the last five girls up for a series (that neither of us got–though it was actually based on MY show!), and she was as nice then as everyone thinks she is now. So, I have absolutely no problem with her in general.

But I have a big bone to pick with her on all her The Blindside wins. She’s never once mentioned the real-life hero of the story, NFL-er Michael Oher, and possibly even more deservedly, the actor who played him in the film, Quinton Aaron. I’ve muddled through all of her acceptance speeches, and nope, nary a word.

At the Golden Globes, she didn’t even mention the real-life family who adopted the guy! At least, last night, she mentioned the mother she played. But to not mention these people is 100% unacceptable, in my opinion. After the Globes, I figured she’d correct the oversight when she won the SAG Award. When she didn’t, I realized that it wasn’t an oversight at all. For some odd reason, she’s leaving them out. And I don’t get it at all.

She seems to be very popular in the show biz community, and my little mother loves her. But I must say that I’m disgusted with the whole season. Hopefully, she’ll read this, or come to her senses on her own, and take out an ad in a trade paper, or something to that effect.

I saw Quinton at the Secret Room Oscar Suite this week-end, and he seemed very happy. This snub probably doesn’t bother him as much as it does me. And Michael Oher’s been though so much in his life that this most likely wouldn’t phase him.

But I believe in fairness so much, though it usually doesn’t exist, that I just had to say something. So, there you have it!
