SECRET ROOM MTV MOVIE STYLE LOUNGE 2012

[Note: each MTV Movie Awards Suite gets its own column, in the order that I visited them, because I don’t want you to miss even one item I’m telling you about. So, please make sure to check back several times to learn about all the fabulous-ness. This is the second of five.]

The Secret Room returned to their most frequent home, the happening SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. I’m always so comfortable there.

Their charity of choice this year is The Stymie Canine Cancer Foundation which raises funds for families in need of financial support for the cost of cancer treatment for their pet. Thank goodness Clarence didn’t have that, but from other pals who’ve gone through it, I know how very expensive that care can be. www.stymieccf.org

To go along with that theme, there were many dog gifts. Some were brilliant actually, but, of course, they all made me miss Clarence, so I’ll tell you about those last, so I can go cry after I finish the column.

Here are the other highlights of the suite:

All photos by Karen Salkin.

ColoursBurst Paintings—I felt instantly better when I saw this cheeriest, most uplifting sponsor. Artist Elisa Marconi was gifting prints of her lovely, colorful angel paintings, which helped me so much when I received them in January, shortly after the death of my beloved mother. I’m sure she helped visitors to this latest suite, as well. www.coloursburst.com

Jem Lew Pendants—I’ve enjoyed jewelry from Melissa Lew in the past, and for this project, she’s teamed up with fellow designer Jennifer Elizabeth Miller to create lovely four-heart colored pendants. With the way I’ve been going this year, I need those extra love symbols! www.melissalew.com

The Orange Owl—these are bath and beauty products, shown to us by two girls who could easily be Miss Universes! So, I trust them on what to use to feel pampered. And you can turn the box from the gift set into an orange owl! So fun, and clever of them to think of. www.theorangeowlshop.com

Fatal Clothing—fun and hip tattoo-influenced attire brought to us by guys who look perfect for fronting his company! www.fatalclothing.com

Zensation Skincare—this line from Switzerland is said to help with anti-aging. And the girl who presented it matched the pretty packaging, which of course I loved! www.zensationbeaute.com

Beyond Clear—this new entry into the fight against acne was presented by girls with excellent skin, so it just may work! And they handed out cute tee shirts and little bags of M&Ms, too, so what’s not to like? www.beyondclearskin.com

Body Eclectic Skincare—while these body lotions and soaps smelled yummy, the presentation was even better. The owner was dressed like a character right out of Harry Potter, and the products were gifted in boxes that looked like old books. Very magical indeed! www.bodyeclecticskincare.com

Vitamints—a variety of vitamins, all in mint form. What could be easier? www.vitamints.ca

Marilyn Monroe BookMarilyn Monroe: A Case For Murder, by Jay Margolis, just may be the perfect thing for me to bring on the plane to New York this week because it’s not exactly easy to watch movies on Jet Blue. But then again, I’m staying alone in New York, so it may not be that smart to read about another bombshell who may have been murdered in her house alone! Maybe this book will have an alternate ending, but I’m not holding my breath.

FroBo—what a brilliant idea this is! It’s a dog bowl with liners that you keep in the freezer! If we owners can have ice water, (the only kind I drink,) why shouldn’t our best friends?! I sure wish these had been around when my darling Clarence was here to enjoy the ice cold water! www.myfrobo.com

Bionic Play—these are durable chew toys for dogs of all sizes. And I was happy to see that they’re all orange, which is the color of the season, so your dogs will be styling while they chew! (But what will they do next year?) www.bionicplay.com

Tagg, The Pet Tracker—if I had known of this collar back in the day, it would have prevented Clarence from getting stolen disappearing! We got him back anyway, thank goodness, and had nine more wonderful years with him, but having a collar that could have tracked him would have made the horribly painful three days spent looking for him null and void. I honestly feel that all pet owners should invest in this one! www.pettracker.com
