GBK MTV MOVIE AWARDS SUITE

Note: each MTV Movie Awards suite is getting its own column because I don’t want any of you to miss even one fun gift I’m telling you about. So, please make sure to read all three or you’ll miss out on some of the fabulous-ness. This is the second, so there will be ones on both days surrounding it.]

This movie-themed suite was my favorite GBK event ever! They made it so cute, with a real popcorn machine (that reminded me of my days in the circus—ahhhh,) a couple of ice cream carts (from Boardwalk Ice Cream Company and Sweet Rose Creamery,) and a big movie screen, showing how contemporary classic films correlate to old school classic ones, in one of the rooms of the SLS where it was once again being held. The whole event was vintage to a tee.

All photos by Karen Salkin.

They made beautiful use of both the actual suites that comprised the gifting areas, and the hotel’s lovely patio, where they featured mellow music acts, (Mike Burke was my favorite,) a hip-hop DJ in-between, a full bar, and a buffet of gorgeous finger foods, including sliders, fries, and pigs in blankets. We guests could not have asked for more.

Because life is about more than receiving, GBK chose several worthwhile charities to benefit from the monies raised: the SoHo Project www.sohoproject.com, St. Bernard Project www.stbernardproject, MyLife MyPower www.mylifemypower.org, Educating Young Minds www.educatingyoungminds.org. They’re all worth learning more about, so I hope you make some time to go to their sites.

Now, since receiving is still good, let’s get to the actual gifts! Here are the highlights for me. [Several gifts are being sent, and I’ll feature the best of those in a Suites Follow-up column in the next few weeks, so please make sure to keep an eye out for it because it will contain some exciting products that I’ve never before seen.

My new ring is at the bottom right. Loving it!

CHELSEA TAYLOR JEWELRY—no fooling around, this Chelsea Taylor-designed ring, featuring the perfect blue color crystals, is my single favorite gift I have ever received from anyone other than Mr. X! And I used to host a jewelry show on a shopping network, so I know jewelry gifts. This ring has barely left my hand since the suite, and everyone comments on it. I hope this company is at every suite from now on. Or on Mr. X’s Christmas and birthday lists for me. www.chelseataylor.com

TATTOO SLEEVES—Mr. X is usually not happy to see me bring bags of goodies into the already-full house. But he was thrilled with these tattoo “sleeves,” which look so authentic, my friends gasped when they saw his arms. They all know that we hate tattoos, but they figured that maybe since he became a krump dancer several years ago, he’s now lost his mind altogether, and got tatted-up. The rep for this company was kind enough to give me a variety pack, and now Mr. X can change up his “gangsta” look every day. What fun for me.www.tattoosleeves.us

My swimsuit is in the little image on the right of this photo.

PIN-UP GIRL CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES–I met the girls from this company at a previous GBK suite, so I was happy to see them here, all dressed-up in their vintage togs once again. It’s so glamorous, old-Hollywood-style, of them. I really appreciate the effort they put into all that they do. And I was thrilled to receive a white one-piece swimsuit, worthy of former swim-films icon, Esther Williams. Her husband was actually my very first director, so I’ve met her several times, but not for years. I’d love to see her now, with me dressed as her from her forties flicks. www.pinupgirlclothing.com

My new shoes are the white and navy ones, in the collection on the right.

ED HARDY SHOES—I was given a pair of Ed Hardy sneaks at one of the very first suites I was ever invited to, when I was still in the “celebrity” category, and I was overwhelmed to receive them. I’ve practically worn them out since. So, when I saw the company at this GBK event, my heart raced. And lo and behold, I got a hip new summer pair, which will also be perfect if I do any yachting in the Hamptons next month. Or just want to look like I’m in that echelon. www.donedhardyshoes.com

THE INDI EXHIBIT—I always look forward to what this group of independent artists comes up with each time. This go-round, they featured several pendants, each one different, creative, and wonderful, especially the one of a girl who looks just like me! www.theindiexhibit.org

Hard Candy display, featuring the nicest make-up artist, Drew.

HARD CANDY—when I walked in and saw that one of my favorite make-up companies was once again the “presenting sponsor,” I was thrilled. I love all of their products. Even better than receiving their goodie bag, complete with a mini train case to carry them in, was when their adorable on-site make-up artist, Drew, told me that I had done my own make-up perfectly, and he wouldn’t change any of it! That’s high praise indeed. It made me forget all about the “Monica-in-the-Caribbean” style ‘do I was rocking that day! www.hardcandy.com

MAXIMUM LASH—at the moment, I’m wearing false lashes that were applied at a beauty event. So, I really need to start using this Maximum Lash eyelash conditioner because when the fake ones start coming off, my own are usually a mess. But if I get started on this product now, I’ll be all set in a few weeks. Hopefully, I’ll look like I’m still styling with the falsies. www.maximumlash.com

NANO DOTS—these are those tiny magnetic balls I’ve told you about in several past columns, that you can turn into jewelry, sculptures, and just about anything you can come up with. I already have them in gold, silver, and “original,” so I chose black this time, to have a complete set. In a few more suites, maybe I’ll be able to build a replica of my favorite structure in the world–the Brooklyn Bridge! www.thenanodots.com

DESIGNER SKIN TANNING PRODUCTS—although I was most attracted to their gorgeous bottles of indoor tanning products, I chose an almost-as-pretty tube of sunless tanner. After two weeks in rainy New York, then another two in bed in LA, recovering from those ones in NY, I really need the contents even more than the beautiful packaging! www.designerskin.com

SPIN MASTER—this time, this fun toy company was giving out cute little plastic bracelets, but seeing them reminded me that I never had the occasion to tell you about the fabulous set of Twist And Dance dolls that they sent me post-Kids Choice Awards Suite a few months ago! There are five of them and their wardrobe is just adorable. Any one of them is fun on her own, but together, they’re a little girl’s dream. Mine, too.   www.spinmaster.com
