ECO OSCARS LUXURY LOUNGE 2014

[Note: Despite just recovering from pneumonia, I managed to make it out to five gifting suites celebrating the 2014 Oscars. Each one gets its own column because I don’t want any of you to miss even one item I’m telling you about. So, please make sure to check back tomorrow (and look at last week’s posts) to learn about all the fabulous-ness. This is the fourth of five. My Contributing Writer on this one is Rachel. Her comments are the ones attributed to her by name, and also the ones in quotes.]

I absolutely loved the venue that Debbie Durkin chose for her Eco Oscars suite this year! It was at the fabulous Beverly Hilton Hotel, but in an ultra-exclusive location within it. It was downstairs in Bar 210, which is the old Trader Vic’s. It’s dark and sexy, and exactly what I imagine Hernando’s Hideaway looked like! (As portrayed in Pajama Game.) It was the perfect place to be on a rainy day!

One of the best features of Debbie’s events is that she always feeds us. (She says that’s inspired by none other than yours truly! I love when that happens!) And this time the fare was the classiest ever!

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with an absolutely gorgeous buffet of upscale, healthful fare, which included a trio of hummuses, all kinds of beautiful sliced vegetables, homemade chips, all kinds of meats such as pepperoni (if they even had any left when I was done with it!,) and a variety of salamis, many cheeses, and every kind of beautiful cracker imaginable! It was such a great meet and greet area, with a bar scene, high-top stools, and inviting purple couches, that many people chose to hang-out there before they even wanted to get gifts!

But get gifts we did, so when we were done eating and drinking, we were escorted into the sponsor area. Here are the highlights of the gifts:

IMG_97997eye by Panoptx Sunglasses—As someone who always worries about eyes, I really appreciated learning about these specialized sunglasses. They have a removable rubberized inside frame, that adds great protection from the sun. They’re perfect for anyone who spends a lot of time outside, such as runners, motorcycle dudes (and dudettes,) road workers, etc. They even have a frame that helps give relief from dry eye! I’ve had that condition for years, and I never heard of such a great thing for us. The best part, to fashionistas such as myself, is that they look good, too! www.7eye.com

L’Arganium Organic Argan Oil–This company’s attractively-packaged argon oils and creams are touted to help improve all areas of your looks; you can apply them to your face, body, hair, even your nails! Rachel was most impressed with the beautiful glowing skin on the rep at the suite, who said she uses it every day. www.larganium.com

LA + Jo Scarves– This company was gifting light scarves, which will come in handy with Spring fast approaching. Rachel was particularly taken with them and said, “They’re beautiful, and feel light around the neck.  They come in great colors and are very fashionable.  And they pretty much look great with everything.” What more can I add? www.laandjo.com

Canine Caviar Dog Food–As the couple who made special meals for Clarence every single day of his almost-eighteen years of life, Mr. X and I really appreciate when a dog food company puts extra care into what they do. Since our precious little boy is no longer on this level of life, Rachel, my dog expert, (with three big ones of her own,) is taking this one. After talking to the company rep for a long time, here’s what she had to say: “Canine Caviar is a wonderful product.  I love that it’s holistic. It’s a great way to feed my dogs a mix of healthy vegetables. And they love it.  Especially the buffalo jerky!”  www.caninecaviar.com

Youngevity Make-up—This company had a make-up bar all set-up so that guests could get touch-ups throughout the day. And everyone left with a gift bag from them, featuring some of their top products. Neither one of us got to to try them out yet, but Rachel commented that the “mineral blush has a great color, as do the lipsticks.” As a make-up junkie, my mouth was just watering over the bag! And you thought I was high maintenance. www.youngevity.net

Debbie’s charity of choice this time was one that she continually boosts, and which I’m happy to remind you all of. Yes! Beat Liver Tumors provides information, resources, support, and hope for anyone affected by cancers of the liver. I hope no one ever needs them, but if you do, I’m grateful that you can take comfort in knowing they’re always there to help. www.beatlivertumors.org
