FASHION/BEAUTY/KAREN’S RANTS: STILETTO NAILS

STILETTO NAILS

Let me start off the new year with a rant. But this time, it’s not about my health! (That’s refreshing, isn’t it?) It’s about those disgusting pointy “stiletto” nails that many female celebs (and others) are rocking these days.

Few people are more nail-obsessed than I. I’ve been since I was a little girl. My teen-age diaries are filled with descriptions of my nail plans. And I currently have more nail polishes than Sephora!!! I have no hair talent, but I love doing my own nails.

And I usually go with whatever the style of the time is. I had very long, yet attractive, nails when they were in, I’m into short ones now, and I often paint the ring finger thing a different color than the rest. I make individual Easter e-words on that holiday, and each nail becomes its own flag for Fourth of July. But I absolutely cannot get behind a fad that actually has danger built in!

A celebrity's horrendous daggers. Can you figure out whose hand that is?

A celebrity’s horrendous daggers. Can you figure out whose hand that is?

The trend of super-pointy nails has been ongoing for about a year now; I really thought it would end as soon as it began, but no such luck. I don’t personally care for me, but I feel really bad for guys. If I were a guy seeing those approach my jewels, I’d shrivel right up.

And just how do you hold hands with those daggers at the end of them? Whenever I see someone on one of those dance shows with them, or an ice skating girl in a pair or dance team, I can’t even watch the action; my eyes are trained on where those knives at the end of the girls’ hands are going, because I’m so worried that the guy is going to get cut.

Not to sound like a mother, but I’m positive that someone’s going to poke her own eye out! We all stick our fingers in our eyes, by accident, at some point or another, but I guarantee if someone does that with one of those pointy nails, the results are not going to be pretty. (Kind of-like the nails themselves!)

And do those women sleep with gloves on? Even with my short rounded nails, I wake up with the occasional scratch or two on my legs, arms, or face. If that happens in the middle of the night for a stiletto-nailed female, she could probably bleed out! They are seriously that dangerous. It’s like having ten mini-knives attached to the end of the hands. (And how do contact lens wearers take them out without constant injury?)

The only good thing about them that I can see is that if, God forbid, any of those girls is physically attacked, she has an advantage in the getting-the-guy-off-her department. But I doubt that even one person who’s wearing them has thought of that.

So to recap why I hate stiletto nails, they’re dangerous and ugly. And we basically know a few things right off the bat about the people who are wearing them, namely that the girls are stupid, thoughtless, self-centered, and followers, not leaders.

If this little rant saves even one person from being injured by those talons, I did my part. The end.

Share.
