CONTINENTAL OPENING
This restaurant, whose opening my pal Alice and I recently attended, has an interesting story. It’s the old Mo’s, on the cusp of Burbank and Toluca Lake, a burger joint you’d be familiar with if you worked at one of the many near-by studios.
I asked a server at the party when Mo’s had closed, because I hadn’t heard about it, and as soon as he told me it was a week before, I knew the situation.
The Continental has the same owner, but with a new chef and menu. I’ll tell you all those scoops when I go back to do a full review for you.
But, for now, I can tell you the opening was jumping. And generous!!!
They had a whole buffet of classy offerings, like cheeses and charcuterie, and my two faves, red hummus and Marcona almonds!
But we agreed that the best thing on the table was the continental chopped salad, with pancetta and chicken. Alice also loved the Shrimp Ceviche.
The amiable staff, (our fave guy was the uber-helpful AJ,) also passed hot appetizers, such as sliders, brisket bites, and Thai seafood bouillabaisse.
Alice said they made her recently-discovered favorite drink, the Moscow Mule, perfectly.
I was too full for dessert, but Alice ate all three! She scarfed the unusually-flavored pot de crème, saying it reminded her of something her aunt used to make. I just admired the jar-like mugs they were served in.
The five-piece band, The Sidewinders, kept the vibe lively by playing, in the middle room, all night. (That’s them at the top of this column.)
I definitely plan to go back there with my reviewing posse, as soon as I get some time off from all my set-date events! And the current NCAA Tournament!

Your restaurant reviews always make me hungry! OT, and I apologize: Any chance that you will do a column on the Pharrell/Marvin Gaye music controversy? I have my opinion on the jury’s ruling and I’d like to hear yours.
