Even though, as every stylist tells me, I have enough hair for ten people, (knock on wood,) I still worry.  I don’t take any medications, (again, I’m still knocking,) so, when I acquiesced to take something a couple of years ago, my hair started falling out in clumps.  A fellow client of my New York salon pointed-out that the hair loss was being caused by the meds, so I stopped taking them immediately, with the correct results.  But that experience made me especially happy to be recently introduced to trichologist Shann Christen at his salon, which is located in Salon Republic on Pico.  The occasion was the launch of his new Biomethod collection of products, which he dubs “the first hair care line developed with an emphasis on anti-aging and nutrition of the hair above all else.”

Before I tell you of the soiree, and of Shann himself, first a word on the location: Even though I love all things beauty, I had never been aware of the multiple beauty service “collectives” known as Salon Republic!  I’m so glad to have been to this one on Pico in Beverly Hills now.  My associate, Celia, dubbed it the “Fred Segal of salons.” [Note: This is copyrighted, so if any of you want to use that line, you need to speak with me first.]

The fete was very interestingly done.  We guests had the run of the entire complex, and several of the other professionals who had rooms there were on hand to chat with us.  But the focus was on Shann, (which he pronounces “Shawn.”  Lucky for him that no one in my fam was his teacher!)

Celia and I started-out the evening by spending some private time with Shann in his salon area.  We got to chat with him a bit, in-depth, before the party got happening. I noticed a microscope on a counter in there, and realized that he studies the actual strands before he suggests which products from his new line each client needs.  He’s very into hair health, which I appreciate.  I sit in a lot of audiences, and I’m always wondering why the people in front of me don’t work harder on their tresses!  (Funny digression: Earlier this year, a PR person sent me a picture of her audience, from the back.  I was immediately jealous of the only fabulous long, straight, shiny hair among them.  And guess what?  It was mine!!!  So, how happy was I?!)

As the evening progressed, caterer Des Petits Délices passed trays of some of the most interesting tidbits I’ve ever had at a party like this! Celia and I had the same two favorites–little patties of spinach and feta cheese, and dates wrapped in the crispest bacon ever.  The dessert-y items were fruit skewers drizzled with chocolate.  I’m glad they were a healthful choice, in case I accidentally left a strand of hair for Shann to analyze!

Celia and I had a really pleasant time chatting with several of the other guests, which rarely happens. It was just a lovely, relaxed evening, all the way around.

We each left with a goodie bag, the highlight of which was one of Shann’s new bio products.  Since, knock on wood, that’s one of the few areas of my life I don’t have to worry about, now I just need to decide which follicly-challenged pal to give it to! So, put in your bids now.  Or just visit Shann Christen, and have him pick something out for your own locks.
