DORIS BERGMAN’S GRATITUDE GIFTING LOUNGE FOR THE GEORGE LOPEZ 2018 CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC

After having a fabulous time at last year’s rendition of this celebrity-filled event, I was thrilled to be invited back this year.  Doris Bergman throws only classy events, and I needed some of that right about now.  I also wanted to be among others who know enough to have gratitude for the blessed lives we live in LA.

The Gratitude Lounge for the 11th annual George Lopez Golf Classic was held once again in the clubhouse of a stunning private golf club in Burbank. (So private, in fact, that I’m not even naming it!)  I loved showing this super-secret location to Lisa Politz, whose year anniversary of working as my main contributing writer is coming up any moment.  She was amazed by the beauty of it all. (Her comments are the ones in quotes along the way.)

The location of the lounge inside the clubhouse featured beautiful views of the entire outdoor tableau.  I actually heard Lisa gasp when she walked into the room!  She deemed the golf club to be “a hidden gem in the middle of a charming neighborhood,” and said “the peaceful setting of the course itself is a paradise!”

Doris Bergman, who put the entire Gratitude Lounge together, kept it all running smoothly, and made sure that everyone involved was happy and comfortable all day. I really applaud her for that hands-on approach.  That’s why her events are always so beautiful and successful. (When Lisa lauded Doris’ “pleasant” staff for all being “very nice and helpful,” I explained that it starts at the top!)

The gifts were all fabulous, as you will read in a minute, but much more important is the good work done by the George Lopez Foundation, which this golf classic benefited. Their mission is “to create positive, permanent change for underprivileged children, adults and military families confronting challenges in education and health, as well as increasing community awareness about kidney disease and organ donation,” which is something that George knows a thing or two about! So it looks like he’s always happy to pay that knowledge forward, which I totally commend. www.georgelopezfoundation.org

Most of the celebrities were on the golf course during the time we non-playing guests perused the many gifts on offer, which made it easier for us to get the scoops on all the items.  But I was happy to see singer Eve in there.  She reminded me of myself when I used to play in celebrity golf and tennis tournaments—I always did the smallest amount possible of playing the sport, while rocking the cutest outfit.  And that pretty much looked like what Eve was doing, on both counts.  You go, girl!  I like your style.

There was a lovely variety of gifts, with something for everyone.  Here are the highlights:

Twisted Silver Jewelry—No matter my mood, I instantly perk-up when I spot designer Debra Mitchell at an event. She’s always the most popular, helpful, cool-as-a-cucumber one anywhere.  Lisa has also become a fan, explaining, “This jewelry always satisfies.  It’s rustic yet elegant, and is the kind of jewelry you want to wear everyday because you can dress it up or down.  And I expect that everyone notices the great style.”  Most of the male celebs were interested in the leather wrap bracelets, while the females were clamoring for the attractive necklaces, of which Lisa said, “I love the mix of gold and silver colors in most of them. My favorite is the Ingot because it’s so versatile; it can be worn several different ways as a necklace, and also doubles as a bracelet!” I agree with everything she said!  www.twisted-silver.com

Porto Vino Bags—Lisa was most impressed with these bags (purses, beach totes, and even “messenger” bags,) that feature a…secret wine spout!  Lisa commented that the one she saw “is a cute canvas handbag…you think!  But no—look closer—it’s also a wine dispenser!”  She added, “They each feature a hidden refillable sac that gives you secret access to the beverage of your choice in the comfort of your handbag!  Very clever and very stylish!”  I know that they’re designed with wine in mind, but, here’s a little secret that I discovered (because yes—I’ve been a proud Porto Vino owner for awhile): it’s a convenient way to not pay for the heavily marked-up soda at movies!!! You’re welcome. www.porto-vino.com

Bend Skincare—All the guests must have really appreciated these skincare supplements—their anti-aging one is designed to help combat sun damage!  How perfect for golfers!  (And for even the pretenders.)  The capsules work by helping to reduce the skin’s sensitivity to UV rays.   Sensitive-skinned Lisa said, “For people like me, with a sensitivity to sunscreen, taking a supplement to reduce the damage from UV is a welcome line of defense.”  They also have a supplement that builds collagen, which helps everyone grow strong nails and long hair.  My thick waist-length locks are hanging in there, (knock on wood,) but my too-busy-typing-all-day nails could sure use those capsules right about now! www.bendbeauty.com

Milena’s Boutique Candles—Everyone I know admires these beautiful scented candles, both in look and aroma.  I’ve always been a fan of their mouthwatering pink-and-brown packaging, but now it’s even better!  When I spoke with Milena in this lounge, and she told me she had re-designed the boxes, I was worried for a second. But then I saw the subtle changes, and I’m on-board.  With it all.  And I especially loved the fabulous fragrances wafting around the lounge, which means they’re delicate enough for even allergy-challenged people such as myself.   www.milenasboutique.com

Powers Realtors—These gifts were so clever.  This is a real estate company in SoCal’s wine country, so they gifted everyone a duo of perfect essentials for a picnic, (perhaps on some property in their area of Temecula?!)  Lisa noted that the “sturdy and insulated, but soft and compact” travel blanket “folds up and holds up.”  And she said that the bottle of red wine (which comes from “the appropriate wine district”) is a “perfect pairing” for not just picnics but also “beachside sunsets.” If Mr. X and I ever move down there, we know just whom to call to help us find the right house!  www.teampowersrealtors.com

Youthglow Skincare—This company with a very pretty black-and-white display, (which made me think of Audrey Hepburn,) was gifting a convenient travel box containing a half dozen items from their “luxurious, organic, paraben-free” skin repair collection. It’s perfect to keep us busy Hollywood types “looking refreshed and glowing” on the road!  www.youthglowskincare.com

Zoriz Golf Sandals—This was the perfect gift for all the celebrity golfers!  I’ve actually never seen anything like them.  They’re comfortable, rubbery sandals with…spikes on the bottom for golfing!  After learning all about them, Lisa said they have an “innovative design” because the flip-flops are “comfortable” yet have “structure,” and the gold spikes on the bottom “ground your foot on the swing.”  She added that, “Comfortable feet equals a longer day on the course.”  I just wish these comfy, colorful, attractive sandals had been around when I was playing in celebrity golf tourneys during the run of my TV show.  And you know that I would have been rocking two different colors of them—one on each foot! Now I’ll just have to get back on TV so that I can wear these in next year’s George Lopez Golf Classic!  (Oh—and learn how to play much better than I do now!)  www.zoriz.com

Tequila Exotico–This award-winning Mexican tequila comes in two different varieties.  Lisa says the Blanco is “great for mixing-up your favorite margarita,” while the Reposado is perfect for drinking on your own. I feel a Tex-Mex country song coming on. And even better than the actual alcohol to non-drinker moi was their very attractive display which featured logo glasses that were lit-up in red and green.  www.exoticotequila.com

Chef Matt, The Premium Cannabis Chef—This cannabis chef was gifting two different cannabis products, for varying purposes. Lisa explained that one “used THC, which is the product that makes you high, while the other one contained the pain reliever CBD.” (Of course, all this got legalized just as I’m medically barred from ever using the substance! Just my luck.) Lisa told me that she ate one of Matt’s mini THC muffins that night, and said it was “delicious” and the “perfect mellowing agent right before bed.”  I don’t doubt it. www.chefmattcooks.com

Backyard Mary—Lisa said, “The great thing about this Bloody Mary mix is that nothing artificial is in it.” She added vodka to it, (duh,) and told me, “I’d say that’s simply delicious!” Since I don’t drink, my ears perked-up when the reps told me that the mix can be used in cooking recipes. Now that’s my kind of language! www.backyardmary.com

Beauty Kitchen—This company was handing-out perfect gifts for that day—bug spray and after-sun spray. I bet the golfers really appreciated those samples! www.heathermarianna.tv

Whew! The Gratitude Lounge was aptly named because I’m sure that all of George’s guests were thrilled with their haul of gifts! I, for one, was just grateful to be included, and to learn about these great sponsors and their useful products. And to meet all the really nice people who were involved on every level. Thanks, Doris!
