HOLIDAY: HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2026

HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2026

A week ago, my solitaire program on my iPad asked me if I wanted to change the design on the cards and background to their summer pool scene, which lulled me into the false feeling that it would still be summer for another long while. Why else would they offer that design at this time?

So that we’re already at Labor Day Weekend now came as a shock. (Which might be why I don’t have much to say about the holiday—I did not have a lot of lead time to write it.)

But at least Labor Day falls kind-of on the late side of the possible dates this year, so that’s a plus.

However, here in LA we’re still suffering through a major heatwave, which makes it feel like Fall is far away. The highs are now closer to the 90 degrees than the 100s of the previous few weeks, but that’s still totally summer weather in the United States. Perhaps because I grew up in New York, I never feel like it’s Labor Day unless it’s crisp outside. And school is about to begin again, so you get your Fall wardrobe ready. I loved that feeling.

Actually, the kids in LA don’t get that feeling on any level these days. And that’s because, in addition to the brutally hot weather, schools in LA…began almost a month ago!!! That’s insane! I’m so glad that I’m not a student anymore. Nor a teacher, for that matter.

This is how I feel about Labor Day.

Actually, Autumn does not officially begin until September 22nd, but in NY, (and elsewhere, as well, I’m sure,) Labor Day has always signaled the end of summer. So we in LA have got to just go with the flow.

So that’s what I’m going to do. And I won’t get any feeling from the weekend weather because, of course, I’ll be in the house the whole time. Doing what you may ask? I’m sure many of you know by now, but in case you don’t, the answer is…watching the US Open tennis tournament, of course! And, hopefully, see some results that make me happy to be doing so. (And don’t forget to follow me on X because I’m sure to be tweeting about the proceedings, as usual. @MajorCelebrity.)

And now, I wish you all a fabulous, safe, and happy Labor Day Week-end. I hope that whatever you do for the next three or four days and nights will be fun, exciting, and/or relaxing, (or any combo of those situations.) And above all, don’t work too hard because Labor Day is designated to celebrate the workers by giving us our own day off.
