HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY 2022

I’m proud to say that I have never missed wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day in the previous dozen years of this e-zine. And even in the middle of my non-stop Olympics-watching right now, not to mention the re-upped pandemic, and that today is the day after the Super Bowl, (which is when I usually publish my review of that day-long event,) I’m keeping that tradition alive this year. (Yay, me!)

Still, it’s somewhat sad that this is the second Valentine’s Day in a row on which we should just be staying home, with or without a lover!!! I know that many of you will still be venturing out, despite the high Covid risk right now. That’s not the smartest, or most loving thing, you can do right now; so many fully-vaxxed-and-boosted people, including lots of my own pals, have been coming down with the virus because they’re going out or gathering again. Even though being vaxxed is helping them get only mildly sick, we don’t know what the long-term effects will be, so I heavily suggest staying home until the risks go waaaay down.

And, as many of you know by now, I don’t feel that anyone ever has to do anything special for this “holiday.” It’s just one day, people! Yes, it’s wonderful if you have a significant other who makes the day lovely for you. But it’s honestly no big deal if he or she doesn’t do much, or does even nothing at all, as long as you both agree on that beforehand. Mr. X and I have been together forever, and neither of us wants the other to hassle over Valentine’s Day. No judgement if you do, especially if you’re in a new relationship, but this is definitely not the year to go all out.

That will be easy for me—I’ll be in the house watching the Winter Olympics all day and night! Celebrating someone I love would only take my attention away from an activity I love, and hardly ever get to do! (Because the Winter Olympics come only once every four years, of course.) And actually, isn’t that what Valentine’s Day is all about—love, in every form?

But ultimately, we all need to remember to let our loved ones know how we feel about them not just today, but every day! Love is always so important, but especially right now, with the recent spate of tragic deaths, both celebrity and layman; you don’t want to leave things unsaid.

And, to that end, I wish you all a very Happy Valentine’s Day, no matter how else you celebrate it or not.
