[Note: The title above states \u201c202<em>3<\/em>,\u201d but they&#8217;re all actually films from 202<em>2<\/em>. That&#8217;s why they&#8217;re eligible for all the awards <em>now<\/em>, in <em>actual<\/em> 2023. I know\u2014it can be confusing.]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_257017468.width-800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-53898\" src=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_257017468.width-800-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"shutterstock_257017468.width-800\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_257017468.width-800-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/shutterstock_257017468.width-800.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m actually thrilled to be done with the topic because this was the absolute worst bunch of films one year has ever produced. My theory is that this situation is due to that all the movies had to be made during the pandemic, so they reflect our worldwide three-year depression.<\/p>\n<p>But filmmakers <em>always<\/em> seem to think that sad or horrific films are more artistic than happy and\/or amusing ones. I don&#8217;t get it. Except for the wonderful <em>Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris<\/em>, so let&#8217;s begin with that one:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris<\/em><\/strong>\u2014When we finished seeing this absolutely delightful, pain-free British film, Mr. X exclaimed, \u201cI really needed that!\u201d We <em>both<\/em> did! It&#8217;s nominated for only costumes, but that gave us an excuse to watch it with the very-limited time before the March 12 Oscars. Even though I had read the novel in high school, I had to force myself to continue viewing this film. But as a work of art, it&#8217;s a masterpiece! Filmmaking at its best! So how were none of these actors, nor the director, nominated for an Oscar? The lead, Felix Kammerer, is wonderful! And it&#8217;s his first film or even television work!!! Unbelievable.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53890\" style=\"width: 712px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/542d230eb7e953a45a0d01f9c05f3c2648159385.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53890\" class=\"size-large wp-image-53890\" src=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/542d230eb7e953a45a0d01f9c05f3c2648159385-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"All Quiet on the Western Front.\" width=\"702\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/542d230eb7e953a45a0d01f9c05f3c2648159385-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/542d230eb7e953a45a0d01f9c05f3c2648159385-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/542d230eb7e953a45a0d01f9c05f3c2648159385.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All Quiet on the Western Front.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If it doesn&#8217;t win Best Picture and Best Cinematography, the Oscars have become a sham. (The British are smarter than we are; it recently had <em>fourteen<\/em> BAFTAs nominations, and won <em>seven<\/em> of them!!!) And I love the real-life story of screenwriter, and impetus behind this whole endeavor, World Champion triathlete Lesley Paterson. Look her up sometime, and prepare to be fascinated.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53892\" style=\"width: 455px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/4456.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53892\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53892\" src=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/4456.jpg\" alt=\"The nauseating Triangle of Sadness.\" width=\"445\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/4456.jpg 445w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/4456-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The nauseating Triangle of Sadness.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Triangle of Sadness<\/em><\/strong>\u2014At all costs, stay away from this vomit-fest. It&#8217;s literally one! It&#8217;s not artistic\u2014it&#8217;s just cruel. On top of that, it&#8217;s super-slow and seemingly without a point. How <em>this<\/em> was nominated for Best Director, but Edward Berger for<em> All Quiet on the<\/em> <em>Western Front<\/em> and James Cameron for <em>Avatar: Way of Water<\/em> didn&#8217;t get the nods, is beyond mind-boggling.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Causeway<\/em><\/strong>\u2014This story is sad from start to finish, but it&#8217;s an interesting enough film. Cinematically, it&#8217;s super-slow, which makes it feel much longer than it&#8217;s ninety-seven minutes. And there are only about a thousand words* in the entire script, so you have to figure-out a lot of the narrative for yourselves, which I hate doing. Filmmakers&#8211;just tell me what&#8217;s going on, please! I don&#8217;t want to use my <em>own<\/em> brain power because <em>you<\/em> guys aren&#8217;t doing <em>your<\/em> jobs!!! *[Note: The average ninety-minute movie has about<em> twelve<\/em> thousand words of dialogue.]<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53941\" style=\"width: 712px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/03causeway-review1-videoSixteenByNine3000.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53941\" class=\"size-large wp-image-53941\" src=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/03causeway-review1-videoSixteenByNine3000-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Causeway.\" width=\"702\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/03causeway-review1-videoSixteenByNine3000-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/03causeway-review1-videoSixteenByNine3000-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53941\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Causeway.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Empire of Light<\/em><\/strong>\u2014The actors are wonderful, especially Olivia Coleman, of course. And I assume the ending is supposed to be somewhat uplifting. But all in all, it&#8217;s just another depressing 2022 film.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53895\" style=\"width: 712px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/l-intro-1670543677.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53895\" class=\"size-large wp-image-53895\" src=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/l-intro-1670543677-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Empire of Light.\" width=\"702\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/l-intro-1670543677-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/l-intro-1670543677-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/l-intro-1670543677.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53895\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Empire of Light.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Guillermo del Toro&#8217;s Pinocchio<\/em><\/strong>\u2014I think the famous director had to put his name on this film to distinguish it from the much-panned live-action Disney version, which stars Tom Hanks, and also came out in 2022. Although I totally recognize the merit of this one, especially the stunning animation, of course, and adore the little boy&#8217;s enthusiastic voice, this odd rendition is way too dark and sad for me. For example, we did not have to see Geppetto have a real son, who then gets killed in a bombing! Spare me.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_53897\" style=\"width: 723px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Pinocchio-1_WEB_t715.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-53897\" class=\"size-full wp-image-53897\" src=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Pinocchio-1_WEB_t715.jpg\" alt=\"Pinocchio.\" width=\"713\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Pinocchio-1_WEB_t715.jpg 713w, https:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Pinocchio-1_WEB_t715-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 713px) 100vw, 713px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-53897\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pinocchio.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Glass Onion<\/em><\/strong>\u2014How stupid this movie is! I really enjoyed 2019&#8217;s Knives Out, so much so, in fact, that I even saw it a second time, just to watch it with Mr. X. But the worst part of that original is Daniel Craig&#8217;s detective, so that the producers are billing <em>Glass Onion<\/em> as \u201c<em>A Knives Out Mystery<\/em>\u201d is misleading. The only continuation is that detective! Not only is he annoying, but the entire film is! It&#8217;s horrible, downright nauseating, and worth absolutely not even one second of anyone&#8217;s time, except for reprobates.
