Mr. X, a show business veteran, gave it the old college try, but after a few minutes, he rightfully declared it unwatchable.<\/p>\n
I also know about only three of the shows being lauded, so that aspect of the proceeding wasn\u2019t very interesting to me. I know it\u2019s shocking, but, despite Mr. X and my house having all the streaming services,\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0satellite TV, (which we were pioneers in\u2014we had the original<\/em> system, the one that only bars and hotels had back in the day!,) I\u2019m a mainly-network-show girl. So, even though I can run the Pop Culture category on game shows, I had no idea who a majority of these people are. Some I sort-of know of, but many others I’ve never even seen or heard of before that night!<\/p>\n ARRIVALS ON E CHANNEL<\/strong><\/p>\n The hosts for this one were Laverne Cox <\/strong>and Loni Love<\/strong>, who were both worse than awful! Laverne\u2019s twin brother \u201cX,\u201d (as opposed to my bae,\u00a0Mr.<\/em>\u00a0X,) who was on the recent\u00a0Claim To Fame<\/em>, is more entertaining than she<\/em> is! She just kept telling everyone how she loved them all night. Ugh. And the Loni woman got so many names of shows and the people she was interviewing<\/em> wrong. But I tried. For a while.<\/p>\n So here are my thoughts on this channel’s coverage, in order:<\/p>\n Hannah Waddingham and Loni Love comparing their concealed-under-their-gowns kicks. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I love that the woman from\u00a0Ted Lasso<\/em>, Hannah Waddingham<\/strong>, showed that she was wearing sparkly sneaks under her gown, to which Loni showed that she was doing the same! (Loni’s only good moment of the night.) Many of you may know that I<\/em> did that for years at big events! But I more often than not\u00a0featured<\/em>\u00a0my kicks!<\/p>\n Issa Rae<\/strong> (from a show called Insecure<\/em>,) said that she\u2019s rooting \u201cfor everybody black.\u201d That is soooo rude! Can you just imagine if anyone said they were rooting for everyone white<\/em>?! Or Jewish?! Or straight?! Or whatever. That was repulsive. I’ve been pushing for equality my entire life, but this is reverse racism at its worst.<\/p>\n Andrew Garfield. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Loni asked the Korean\u2019s translator’s name, and when the woman gave it, Loni declared, \u201cI remembered!\u201d If she had<\/em>, she wouldn\u2019t have had to ask!!!<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been one of the few who has never cared about Andrew Garfield<\/strong>, one way or the other, but he looked the best in his white suit and shades.<\/p>\n Kerry Washington<\/strong> looked very unhealthy. I was anorexic myself back in the day, so I recognize it. Hey honey, mix in a sandwich!!!<\/p>\n I still love Kate McKinnon<\/strong>, but her fawning over Laverne Cox was downright nauseating. She even kissed her hand!!!<\/p>\n Then Loni called her \u201cKate McKinley<\/em>!!!\u201d\u00a0Why does E keep hiring illiterate people???<\/p>\n Jake Lacy<\/strong> showed himself to be the nicest, most real actor ever!!! He looked familiar, so I had to look up what I knew him from, and it\u2019s the sitcom\u00a0Better With You<\/em>, where he played the sweet dumb hunk, essentially, and Mr. X and I loved him! I\u2019m glad to see him being very successful now.\u00a0(Except that I hate that he’s playing a horrific pedophile in a new show now. Sad casting.)<\/p>\n Kerry Washington. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n As Loni Love was fawning over Mariska Hargitay <\/strong>and Chris Meloni<\/strong>, and proclaiming to be a major fan of their show, Law & Order: SVU<\/em>, (which stands for \u201cSpecial Victims Unit,\u201d) she asked, \u201cYou know what? I love y\u2019all.\u00a0 You know? How long are we gonna keep doing SUV<\/em>?\u201d What an idiot! She\u2019s such a fan and she doesn\u2019t even know the simple title???<\/p>\n When asked to tell about her dress, Rachel Brosnahan<\/strong> said, \u201cShe\u2019s new and I\u2019m loving her.\u201d But never once said the designer\u2019s name!!! She should know better. (Unless she was referring to her dress<\/em> as \u201cshe,\u201d which would be weird.)<\/p>\n I couldn’t take it anymore at this point\u2014I just could not watch the rest of this nausea-fest. Not even for you guys.<\/p>\n ARRIVALS ON LOCAL KTLA<\/strong><\/p>\n This one was hosted by Channel 5 news people, Sam Rubin<\/strong> and Jessica Holmes<\/strong>. They didn\u2019t even know who some of the supposed celebs were! (As I said, neither do I, but I would have definitely been prepared had that been my gig!!!)<\/p>\n Here are my thoughts on their interviews:<\/p>\n Steve Zahn and wife. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n First interviewee Steve Zahn<\/strong> and his wife seem really nice.<\/p>\n Some young girl from something called\u00a0The Bear<\/em> popped-up on their platform, and they were flummoxed\u2014you could tell they had no clue who she was! But I give them props for doing the interview leaving out anything specific until someone in their earpieces finally figured it out and fed them the info.<\/p>\n Henry Winkler<\/strong> said weird stuff that I\u2019m sure not one person watching understood. It was on the level of what my good friend Elliott Gould often says, which has made more than one talk show host sweat trying to figure out how to respond. In this Winkler case, the female host replied, \u201cI see what you\u2019re saying,\u201d when she had not one clue. But I guess that was better than the more honest, \u201cHuh???\u201d<\/p>\n Patricia Arquette. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n OMG\u2014those two thought that Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni are a couple in real life!!! They didn\u2019t stop talking about it, saying things like that they\u2019re the \u201cbest-looking couple of all time!\u201d I kept screaming at the screen, \u201cThey are not a couple!!!\u201d<\/p>\n I never heard of\u00a0The Great<\/em>, but I loved seeing Nicolas Hoult<\/strong> (from 2002’s About a Boy<\/em>,) all grown-up. But get this: In the middle of him talking, answering their question, idiot Sam Rubin interrupted him by saying, \u201cI\u2019m going to do you a favor; I\u2019m going to let you go back to talking to Geena Davis<\/strong>,\u201d (which he had been doing for just a brief moment when he was introduced to her before he stepped-up to the interview platform, and had no intention of going back to,) so they could bring Seth Meyers<\/strong> up. How incredibly rude!!! And Seth was just there waiting patiently\u2014there was no need to rush Nicolas off at all!!!<\/p>\n Ultra-thin HoYeon Jung from Squid Game. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n The\u00a0Squid Game<\/em>\u00a0acting duo appear to be the sweetest people. But HoYeon Jung<\/strong> is so skinny, I almost didn\u2019t see her when she turned to the side! And I’m not joking.<\/p>\n I love, love, love Patricia Arquette<\/strong>‘s honesty. When Sam introduced her by saying, \u201cPatricia Arquette is no stranger to Emmy gold,\u201d she quietly answered, \u201cThat\u2019s right, I\u2019m not.\u201d Love it!!!<\/p>\n Sam had no idea who Chris Perfetti<\/strong>, who plays the gay teacher on Abbott Elementary<\/em>, is. Sam referred to him as the \u201cfriend\u201d of another cast member he was interviewing! How humiliating. It’s one of the biggest shows on TV! And Sam Rubin is supposed to be the entertainment reporter on his channel, which is a local one, and Chris just starred in a major stage production here! So how could he not know who Chris is?! Even if he didn’t know his name, he definitely should have known he’s one of the stars of the sitcom.<\/p>\n Reese Witherspoon. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Although I have not one clue who she is, Rhea Seehorn<\/strong> seems so nice.<\/p>\n Reese Witherspoon<\/strong> looked gorgeous! (And that’s something I haven’t said for years.)<\/p>\n That Eve Plumb<\/strong> woman from The Brady Bunch<\/em> is so obnoxious! And desperate. I never saw the show, which means I have no idea who any of those people are, so I loved that in her interview, she kept ragging on people who don’t know who she is. And from what I understand, she was a little girl on the show, and she’s an old lady now, so even if someone knew that long-ago series, they wouldn’t recognize her now.<\/p>\n EMMYS SHOW OVERALL IMPRESSIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n Before I discuss the moment-to-moment happenings, here are a few of my overall impressions of the actual show:<\/p>\n The venue. The undesirables had to sit in theatre seats in the back while the important peeps got to be at tables, having dinner and mingling with other VIPs.<\/p><\/div>\n Since there was no Golden Globes show this year, the Emmys stole their model and had the audience sit at tables, and plied them with food and drink before the telecast began, (probably hoping they would get drunk and rowdy, which the producers seem to think makes good television.) The Screen Actors Guild Awards do it that way, too. That\u2019s sort-of obnoxious of the Emmys producers. I hate people stealing ideas, perhaps because it\u2019s been happening to me<\/em> since fifth grade! I know that imitation\u00a0is the sincerest form of flattery, but have an original idea, people!!!<\/p>\n Doing it that way showed there to be lots of empty seats up front. They can\u2019t put seat fillers at a table with food because I’m sure the actors do not want strangers to breathe on it!<\/p>\n And they put many of the tables on the other side of the stage that was used for the first hour or so, (sort-of in the middle of the room,) like they were second class citizens. That was rude. And embarrassing.<\/p>\n I hated that announcer! When she introduced the host, Kenan Thompson<\/strong>, she had to say he’s her \u201cbig brother.\u201d Like anyone cares! We have no idea who\u00a0she<\/em>\u00a0is! And she got even more annoying as the night went along. They gave her way too much to do, in her raspy voice.<\/p>\n Mindy Kaling’s awful nose job. Some of the worst were on Mindy Kaling<\/strong>, Sheryl Lee Ralph<\/strong>, and Jennifer Coolidge<\/strong>, (although hers might just be overall facial surgery that makes her look even weirder than ever. Poor woman.)\u00a0But the perennial worst is that of Kaley Cuoco<\/strong>. How are there no good plastic surgeons in Los Angeles at this<\/em> late date???<\/p>\n They need to give the winners at least a minute for their acceptance speeches, for goodness sake!!! They’re the reason viewers watch the show! They can just cut-out the stupid \u201ccomedy\u201d bits, which everyone hates.<\/p>\n How do so many people in show biz not<\/em> know about mic height by now??? They can stand-up\u2014the mics will pic their voices up. There’s never a need to lean down to it. Even more perplexing is that the people on awards shows don’t get that note when they’re at rehearsal!<\/p>\n Why do so many actors lisp now??? And how have I not noticed some of them before Monday night?<\/p>\n Jennifer Coolidge. Note two things here: her strange facial “work” and the bad background. (But she was a highlight of the show!) Didn\u2019t they try it out before the telecast???<\/p>\n But the very-different venue space actually grew on me as the night wore on. And on.<\/p>\n In the clips of dramas, comedies, cop shows, and\u00a0all<\/em>\u00a0the medical shows, there were sooo many network<\/em> shows, which have not been nominated for Emmys for about a decade! They need to re-think showing them, or not nominating<\/em> them, next year.<\/p>\n I actually didn’t mind the over-three-hours length of the show, except for that the first hour wasn’t entertaining at all.<\/p>\n The best thing to come out of the night is that, shockingly, I now want to see some of the streaming shows!<\/p>\n MY IMPRESSIONS OF PARTS OF THE SHOW, IN A ROW<\/strong><\/p>\n What a stupid, unimportant, confusing opening. I love dance, in general, but that musical number was just a waste of time.<\/p>\n I have no idea who this woman is, but why would anyone wear an outfit like this anyplace when they look like this??? Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n When the people from\u00a0The Brady Bunch<\/em> walked the red carpet, they kept telling the viewers to \u201cpay attention\u201d to the beginning of the show, making it seem that there would be a major tribute to them. And some of them also alluded to that there would be others throughout the show. And then all that happened is that they stood up for literally five seconds during that musical opening of people dancing to old TV show theme songs, which included theirs. I’m not kidding\u2014Mr. X turned his back to just grab a candy bar, and missed it! Talk about self-aggrandizement!<\/p>\n Host Kenan Thompson, whom I usually adore, said, \u201cStand up for Oprah Winfrey<\/strong>.\u201d You could tell that no one wanted to, but they were forced into it. He should not have done that.<\/p>\n Oprah’s fake British accent has gotten worse. And her bulls**t statement the other day saying that William and Harry should make-up is disgusting\u2014her<\/em> interview with creepy Meghan is what started<\/em> the rift!!! She never cared about them<\/em> at all, only herself. As usual.<\/p>\n Winner Michael Keaton<\/strong> had a great line about being happy to be able to stop fake-smiling now. I loved that, and the crowd chuckled knowingly. And his victory gives me another opportunity to tell you my personal story of how nice he is again. When I was a young girl just starting-out, a pal invited me to a taping of a pilot Michael was starring in. There was a small after-party in a backstage room, and my supposed friend (who was in the show) just left me sitting there by myself all night, without introducing me to even one person. Michael noticed my loneliness, and came up to talk to me, and make me feel comfortable. I can’t tell you how much I still, to this day, appreciate that kindness!<\/p>\n Jean Smart<\/strong> looked the best. Classy woman.<\/p>\n Julia Garner<\/strong>\u2019s dress was weird. It was all bundled-up, but with a cut-out of\u2026her belly button!!! Her snow white belly button.<\/p>\n Holland Taylor, with the red hair at that back table, perturbedly gazing at Keenan Thompson’s rear end from her bad seat! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I love Holland Taylor<\/strong>. The whole time, she looked so pissed to be seated on the \u201cB side\u201d of the room. I made a note that I had \u201ca feeling she\u2019ll leave the second she is able to,\u201d meaning when her girlfriend Sarah Paulson<\/strong> finished doing her presentation, and I was totally correct! Did you doubt it?<\/p>\n Sheryl Lee Ralph featuring her chubby, wrinkly leg, like she thought she was Angelina Jolie! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I was a fan of Sheryl Lee Ralph until her full-of-herself speech and red carpet interviews. I’ll leave it at that.<\/p>\n The show finally got good when Steve Martin <\/strong>and Martin Short<\/strong> appeared\u2014they were hilarious. Then the humor kept going with John Oliver<\/strong>, followed by Bowen Yang<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Jennifer Coolidge has turned into Rebel Wilson. But her dance to the music trying to play her off was a riot! One of the very few highlights of the show!<\/p>\n Ismael Cruz C\u00f3rdova<\/strong>, the cute Puerto Rican actor from The Undoing<\/em>, needs to lose the ‘stache. Pronto!<\/p>\n I’ve never seen White Lotus<\/em>, (but now plan to,) nor heard of Mike White<\/strong>, but was still very surprised when, in his acceptance for writing the show, he mentioned that had been a contestant on Survivor<\/em>. So I made a note to look him up, and guess what? Not only was he on that show\u2014twice!–he was also on The Amazing Race<\/em> two times!!! His<\/em> crazy life history\u00a0rivals mine<\/em>!<\/p>\n Jerrod Carmichael<\/strong> said in his speech, \u201cI wanted to win, I\u2019m happy I won.\u201d I love that honesty, but I was surprised that he wasn\u2019t funny–he won for being a comedian<\/em>!<\/p>\n Anthony Anderson. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Anthony Anderson<\/strong> got old in a hurry.<\/p>\n That was a particularly sad In Memorium section. Mr. X and I knew, worked with, or met so many of them. Heartbreaking.<\/p>\n I give Bill Hader<\/strong> so much credit for being the only person there rocking a mask. That\u2019s usually Mr. X and me.<\/p>\n Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong>‘s \u201ccomedy\u201d bit of being dragged out onto the stage, because he supposedly passed-out from not winning again, was sooo stupid. It wasn’t funny to begin with, but was made worse as it went along. They didn’t know how to get him off<\/em> the stage, so he lay there while poor Quinta Brunson<\/strong> gave her acceptance speech for writing Abbot Elementary<\/em>, which was a major event since it’s the only network show that was nominated, and won, for anything. Being a fellow comedian, she accepted it, (and, as I predicted the second it happened, will be on his shows this week,) but it was a low point of the telecast. On the other hand, people claiming his actions were \u201cracist\u201d are just idiots themselves\u2014Jimmy had no idea who would win, ergo the person’s race wasn’t part of the equation!!! How could they not realize that?!<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a>
