<\/a>Winnie The Pooh.<\/p><\/div>\n
Today is National Winnie The Pooh Day! Who knew? (Well now, you and I both<\/em> do!)<\/p>\n But I have no idea how we\u2019re meant to celebrate it! Watch Winnie cartoons? Hug our stuffed Pooh bears? (Which, of course, I have!) Pal around with our petite pink pig bestie? Speak like Sterling Holloway? Eat a lot of honey?<\/p>\n Wait a second\u2014I<\/em> do all of those things, and on a regular basis! So I\u2019m all set for any and all situations that arise today.<\/p>\n That\u2019s basically all I have to say on the subject. Except for one personal multi-layered anecdote, of course.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s my tale: As much as I love Winnie himself, I adore Piglet<\/em>!!! Absolutely adore<\/em> him. When I was little, I had the Winnie the Pooh board game, and I always chose to be Piglet because he\u2019s adorbs. (Of course<\/em> I always got my choice\u2014it was my<\/em> game! And everyone else fought over being Winnie, anyway.)<\/p>\n The Winnie The Pooh game.<\/p><\/div>\n [Note: Sadly, my mother got rid of almost* all my classic games when I moved by myself to LA as a teen-ager. Boy, would I love, love, love to have them back. Mr. X and I actually spent a fortune to win a classic Mr. Ree, (or two, but who\u2019s judging,) back in the day when eBay was mostly bidding. We stayed-up just about overnight on my birthday back then, to make sure we were not outbid. And then we\u2019ve never played it. Don\u2019t ask.] *[Note: You\u2019re not going to believe which one I managed to salvage\u2014a classic version of The Beatles Game! It must be worth a fortune now. But I\u2019ll never let it go, of course.]<\/p>\n Okay, I\u2019m getting off-track here. Back to Piglet and Winnie. So, every Christmas that I\u2019ve been with Mr. X, (except for the past few because we need nothing but good health,) he\u2019s given me an unbelievable number of gifts, each one more thoughtful than the one before. But one year, while he bestowed upon me grown-up gifts like stunning sterling silver serving utensils from Neiman Marcus, he gave an adorable little stuffed Piglet to\u2026Clarence! And no, it was not<\/em> a real dog toy! He just knew Clarence would like it. But I was so upset that he didn\u2019t think to give Piglet to me<\/em>! (Crazy, I know. But no worries\u2014Clarence<\/em> re-gifted it to me!)<\/p>\n My very own besties, Winnie and Piglet! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n So, skip ahead to the following year. And\u2026just about every one of my dozens of Christmas presents from Mr. X was in the Winnie the Pooh fam! There was a\u00a0big\u00a0stuffed Winnie and one of Piglet, and Winnie sox, salt and pepper shakers, books, jewelry, a giant cookie jar, underwear<\/em>, and even a teapot with the entire gang having a birthday party on top! (It was three weeks before my bday, after all.)\u00a0It was all a tad nutty, but, as I\u2019m sure many of you know, I loved every second of it! As a matter of fact, while I was going through my closest just last month to donate clothing at this critical time for many, I came upon my Winnie and Piglet, hanging-out side-by-side in a closet I rarely go into anymore. Needless to say, I can\u2019t stop hugging those guys ever since! It\u2019s like I received them for this<\/em> Christmas!<\/p>\n So this happy story made me think of a previous article I wrote that\u2019s especially relevant for these stressful times we\u2019re going though right now. These besties are especially helpful in this past year and going forward for another one.
