ROOFTOP MOVIES AT THE MONTALB\u00c1N 2019 KICK-OFF PARTY<\/h1>\n

Major kudos go to the powers-that-be at the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood for throwing just about the perfect pre-summer soiree recently!!!<\/p>\n

The occasion of this fete was to kick-off the new season (which runs all the way to Halloween) of the outdoor movies series on their fabulous rooftop. The weather was beautiful, there didn’t appear to any crashers this time, (there were a ton last year!,) and it was all very festive.<\/p>\n

The party featured hip not-too-loud clubby music all night, plenty of upbeat mingling, a colorful atmosphere, and a GIF booth, which I love keeping my eye on to see just which guests actually know enough to move<\/em> while taking the image. (They\u2019re GIFs<\/em>, people\u2014not\u00a0still<\/em>\u00a0pix!)<\/p>\n

And, of course, the best part was\u2014that there was sooo much food!\u00a0 You know I love a shindig that feeds us!\u00a0 And this one covered all the bases.<\/p>\n

First up were passed plates of three types of sushi.\u00a0 The servers were even kind enough to give me just vegetarian<\/em> ones because I don\u2019t eat fish.\u00a0 And even if I did,\u00a0raw<\/em>\u00a0fish would definitely\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0be up my alley!<\/p>\n

Then all the guests got to order dinner from the snack bar, with\u2026no limitations on our choices!\u00a0 How generous was\u00a0that<\/em>???\u00a0 I hope that everyone was polite enough to choose just\u00a0one\u00a0<\/em>sandwich, (either a burger, veggie burger, or crispy chicken,) but we could get\u00a0both<\/em>\u00a0kinds of fries, and even a little salad!\u00a0 My friend and I shared the sides, and it was all delish!<\/p>\n

And all the while, fresh popcorn was being served all night.\u00a0 (But the Montalban really<\/em> needs to look into switching brands; the one they have now is\u2014how shall I put it?\u2014less than stellar.)\u00a0 There was also a station where they were doling-out little cups of a frozen vegan treat.\u00a0 (I refuse to call it \u201cice cream,\u201d as vegans are wont to do, because if they loathe our dairy products so much, they should not be allowed to use our descriptions, such as \u201ccream!\u201d)\u00a0 But everyone seemed happy to have a little bit of cold sweetness for dessert.<\/p>\n

When all that was done, and people were starting to take their seats (on comfy lounge chairs) for the first movie of the year, a girl began going around with a tray full of little goodie bags for the assemblage.\u00a0 Can you guess what was in them?\u00a0 A bunch of snacks for the movie!\u00a0 How adorable!\u00a0 And thoughtful!\u00a0 Each bag had different contents including a variety of bagged chips, chocolate bars, and fruit snacks.<\/p>\n

Kind personnel gets to my heart even more than food does, and this celebration was filled with those peeps.\u00a0 Most notable among them were Martin, the adorable and pleasant guy who took our dinner order, and Greg, the bartender who didn\u2019t wait for me to find my drink ticket when I was choking a bit, (which trust me\u2014many barkeeps in LA would have done!)<\/p>\n

And I finally got to meet the President of The Montalban Company, Gilbert Smith, who also has the distinction of being the son-of-law of Ricardo Montalban himself, for whom this theatre is named.\u00a0 I had met Ricardo when I first started-out in show biz, so I loved having it confirmed for me that he was as lovely a man as I had experienced.<\/p>\n

As I said, this party was just perfect!<\/p>\n

And the festivities continued with the first film of the season up there.\u00a0 The uber-scary\u00a0Get Out<\/em>\u00a0screened once the sun set; the Montalban provides not only the headsets but also cozy blankets for all who would like one.\u00a0 I just hope that everyone came with someone whose arm they were comfortable grabbing\u2014this movie gets terrifying!<\/p>\n
