SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS 2019<\/h1>\n
\"Just<\/a>

Even though, as a proud member of SAG-AFTRA, I voted for these awards, I have to say that the SAG Awards<\/em> are pretty much\u00a0always\u00a0<\/em>the most boring awards show of the year. But this year\u2019s rendition was the worst ever! (But compared to an opposing network\u2019s production of\u00a0Rent: Live<\/em>\u00a0that was broadcast last night, too, it was brilliant. That\u2019s how bad\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0show was!)<\/p>\n

But there was<\/em> one bright spot\u2014our time didn\u2019t get wasted with any arrivals shows because…there were none! I think there were<\/em> one or two on-line, but who wants to watch that stuff on a computer<\/em>?! Or worse–a phone screen<\/em>! They\u2019re bad enough on a big TV!<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s get right to the actual awards show:<\/p>\n

\"Geoffrey<\/a>

Geoffrey Owens.<\/p><\/div>\n

The best part of the evening, by far, was the little \u201cI am an actor\u201d vignettes at the top of the broadcast. Mike Myers<\/strong>‘ story about how much more supported the arts are in Canada was eye-opening. And the crowd went nuts for Geoffrey Owens<\/strong>, the man who had been a regular on The Cosby Show<\/em> way back in the day, and then was recently discovered being a check-out person at a New Jersey Trader Joe\u2019s! Because of that unwanted publicity about that situation, he\u2019s now back on the small screen, in a Tyler Perry series! Now\u00a0that\u2019s<\/em> an inspirational show business tale.<\/p>\n

Megan Mullally<\/strong> was a dreadful host. She totally bombed. Boy, did her bits, throughout the entire telecast, fall flat.<\/p>\n

\"Megan<\/a>

And she\u00a0really<\/em>\u00a0needed a bra\/to stand-up straight\/Spanx. Not only were her boobs sagging<\/em> embarrassingly, but they were two different lengths!<\/p>\n

And that awful voice was making my ears bleed!!!<\/p>\n

Whose dumb idea was it for her to host in the first place??? This show was so much better when it\u00a0didn\u2019t<\/em>\u00a0have a host.<\/p>\n

Megan\u2019s awful bit with Alec Baldwin<\/strong> could not have been more uncomfortable. For us\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0them.<\/p>\n

As for the rest of the guests, presenters, and winners:<\/p>\n

\"Jane<\/a>

Jane Fonda. I was going to use a much more sharply-focused image here, but I’m sure she’ll appreciate this softer one. I know I would! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n

Jane Fonda<\/strong> definitely does not want to go gentle into that good night, which I give her tons of credit for. I\u2019m sure that I will follow suit!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s nice that Rachel Brosnahan<\/strong> acknowledged the extras on her show. But to call them \u201cartists\u201d is more<\/em> than a reach.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve\u00a0never<\/em>\u00a0liked Tracy Morgan<\/strong>, but that was just creepy that he started to announce the winner without first saying the nominees. And he called the winner of Best Comedy Series\u00a0The<\/em> Marvelous \u201cMiss Mavel,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0when it\u2019s\u00a0\u201cMrs. Maisel.\u201d<\/em> How rude of him!<\/p>\n

\"Robin<\/a>

Emily Blunt<\/strong>\u2019s acceptance speech was adorable. Mr. X and I both voted for her for Supporting Actress, so we\u2019re glad to see that the majority of our fellow actors felt the same way.<\/p>\n

What is Robin Wright<\/strong>\u2019s next role? Tan Mom?!<\/p>\n

And\u2014I\u2019m not joking here\u2014did she once have a tracheotomy? I\u2019ve never before noticed that \u201chole\u201d in front of her larynx.<\/p>\n

\"Mahershala<\/a>

Mahershala Ali and his wife. Does she not have a mirror in her house???<\/p><\/div>\n

Was Mahershala Al<\/strong>i\u2019s wife auditioning for\u00a0The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em> with that hideous outfit???<\/p>\n

I\u2019m happy that Mahershala Ali won, since we voted for him, too, but he should have definitely been in the Leading<\/em> Actor category, not the Supporting<\/em> one.<\/p>\n

I like that Glenn Close <\/strong>and Michael Douglas<\/strong> presented together. They both still look good. Actually, Glenn looks the best she ever has. She looked this<\/em> age when she appeared in\u00a0The<\/em> World According to Garp<\/em>\u2026thirty-seven years ago!<\/p>\n

Patricia Arquette<\/strong> sure likes to pop her boobs out!!! But her hair looked the best it ever did, by far. And good for her that she thanked Robert Mueller!<\/p>\n

\"Henry<\/a>

How gorgeous is\u00a0Crazy Rich Asian<\/em>\u2019s Henry Golding<\/strong>??? And I love his equally-gorgeous accent, too!<\/p>\n

When I was little, I used to love Alan Alda<\/strong> solely because he loved his wife so much.<\/p>\n

I really enjoyed Jason Bateman<\/strong>\u2019s speech, even though he mentioned his\u00a0former\u00a0<\/em>show (Arrested Development<\/em>) and not\u00a0Ozark<\/em>, the one he won<\/em> for!!!<\/p>\n

The In Memoriam section gets sadder all the time. Or is that just me<\/em>?<\/p>\n

You know how I hate mispronunciations, and it really annoyed me that the announcer called Hugh Grant<\/strong> \u201cYou,\u201d without the \u201cH\u201d sound in front. People sound like idiots when they speak like that.<\/p>\n

\"Emily<\/a>

Emily Blunt and her somewhat controversial dress. People likened it to female private parts. But I liked it.<\/p><\/div>\n

Hugh Grant was the only honest person on there\u2014he admitted that he\u2019s never seen any of the nominated shows he was announcing. You go, boy!!! [Note:\u00a0The pic at the very top of the page is apropos of nothing. I just thought it’s really interesting to see the old guard, Hugh Grant, and new guard, Timothee Chalamet, together, equally puzzling over what someone was saying on stage. \u00a0Photo by Karen Salkin.]<\/p>\n

I watch\u00a0This Is Us<\/em>\u00a0only to see the little surprise that\u2019s at the end of each episode. And even though I do\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>watch the other nominees in this category, they all looked like they deserved the award so much more than\u00a0This Is Us<\/em>! (Perhaps many of my fellow SAG members also watch network shows only. Who has time for all these cable, satellite, auxiliary channels??? Surely not yours truly.)<\/p>\n

\"Glenn<\/a>

It\u2019s ridiculous that Rami Malek<\/strong> won the award for Leading Actor in a Movie! Yes, he is<\/em> excellent as Freddie Mercury, but I really think he won because the way more deserving Viggo Mortensen <\/strong>and Christian Bale<\/strong> split the smart votes.<\/p>\n

Glenn Close\u2019s acceptance speech about \u201ctwo eyes looking into two eyes\u201d being something like the one honest form of communication, or something like that, made me cringe. That was so offensive to sightless people. Does she think they don\u2019t count?<\/p>\n

\"Michael<\/a>

Jodie Foster<\/strong> looked great.\u00a0 But it was strange to have her present the biggest award of the night when she hasn\u2019t made a movie in many years.<\/p>\n

What the heck was Michael B. Jordan<\/strong> wearing??? It looked like a harness!!!<\/p>\n

I know that this is not as in-depth as my usual<\/em> awards show reviews, but I have too much going on in my own life right now to be as concerned with strangers as I usually am. And, as always, I tweeted a lot of my thoughts as the show went along live, and I don\u2019t like to repeat myself.
