For those\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0of my ethnic persuasion, the number \u201c18\u201d corresponds to the Hebrew* word \u201cchai,\u201d which means \u201clife\u201d in that language.\u00a0 And who does not want to celebrate\u00a0that<\/em>?\u00a0 *(I don\u2019t speak Hebrew myself, which means I can\u2019t explain it to you, so please just go with it.)<\/p>\n Because of all of that, my people often give multiples of eighteen for bar mitzvah gifts and the like. (I, myself, would rather someone give me $20. as opposed to $18., but oh well.)<\/p>\n The Hebrew “Chai.”<\/p><\/div>\n When I used to be one of the celebrities on the annual Chabad telethon, the donators usually pledged in multiples of chai. It would crack me up when the host, Jan Murray, along with a Chabad rabbi, would come over to interview us on-air, and ask how it was going. They wanted to know the pledges of some of the callers, and whenever I would answer, \u201c$36.,\u201d they\u2019d get all giddy and exclaim, \u201cTwo times chai!!!\u201d<\/p>\n So, if you don\u2019t already<\/em> follow me, and want to celebrate together, here\u2019s all the info you need to get started now. <\/a>As regular INAM readers know, I celebrate every<\/em> hundred columns in this e-zine. (Yes, I am<\/em> patting myself on the back, but someone\u2019s<\/em> got to do it!) And the 1,800th is special to me.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a>From watching me on that telethon, even non<\/em>-Jewish Mr. X knew about chai. He was with me when I recently chose my new cell phone number. They don\u2019t allow you to just tell them the full number that you want anymore. You do it in three sections; the first, of course, is your usual area code, and then you have just a few choices of two strange groups of numbers for the prefix and final four. It\u2019s really annoying to do it that way, especially for crazy superstitious me. When none of my favorite numbers, or even any that I would be sort-of<\/em> happy with, were available, I finally came up with ones I could be content with in each section. When I asked Mr. X if he could figure-out why I had chosen those so-not-me numbers, without skipping a beat, he surmised, \u201cBecause it\u2019s two times chai?\u201d I love that my Catholic bae knew that!!!<\/p>\n<\/a>What\u2019s even better to me, in celebration of my 1,800th column, than receiving any<\/em> times chai in money<\/em>, is to have new followers across my social media platforms.<\/p>\n
