But then people in my native Brooklyn who knew of all the crazy situations I got myself into as a teen started calling me \u201cJuicy,\u201d for \u201cJewish Lucy.\u201d<\/p>\n The similarities between us didn\u2019t really come totally home for me until this happened:\u00a0 I had already done one episode of the early Fox network sitcom,\u00a0Open House<\/em>, and then had to turn down another episode or two because I was doing other shows at the time.\u00a0 (Yes, I\u00a0did<\/em>\u00a0used to have an interesting and semi-wild acting career before I traded it in for this one in media, although I\u2019ve been considered an \u201cinfluencer\u201d in both!)\u00a0 But then the producers called me and\u2014I\u2019m serious about this\u2014practically begged me to play Lucy on that week\u2019s show.\u00a0 I took it as a great compliment, and, of course, said yes. (You\u2019ll find-out just why they were so adamant in a minute.)<\/p>\n But when I asked my fellow guest cast members why the producers didn\u2019t just get a Lucy impersonator for the role to begin with, (as opposed to me<\/em>,) they recoiled, and, to a person, told me that \u201cno one does Lucy!\u201d\u00a0 So I had the hardest job of all of them!\u00a0 But I didn\u2019t know that when I accepted the job, of course.<\/p>\n Adding to that fun was that I was re-united in a show biz gig with Jamie Alcroft, who played the Robin Leach character interviewing Danny and my \u201cLucy and Desi,\u201d for the first time since we had both appeared on the same Tonight Show<\/em> a few years earlier. Jamie was on there as a comedian with his partner, Mack, and I got the \u201cstarlet interview position.\u201d (I was just grateful that I wasn\u2019t booked as a \u201chuman oddity!\u201d)<\/p>\n Here\u2019s one amusing thing that happened on that Open House<\/em> shoot. The hair people wanted to make my hair redder, even though it should not have mattered since I was playing someone who was not really<\/em> Lucy. So I volunteered to bring in a colored hair mousse of mine, which I had used only once because it was too orange for me.<\/p>\n![\"ILoveLucyTitleScreen\"](\"http:\/\/itsnotaboutme.tv\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ILoveLucyTitleScreen.jpg\")
<\/a>I have to say right up front that I was never a fan of this show.\u00a0 I Love Lucy<\/em> always made me nervous\u2014situational scrapes have never been to my liking, (unless, of course, Gale Storm was in them! But that\u2019s another story.)\u00a0 Ergo, I was not a Lucille Ball fan.\u00a0 Truth be told, I used to think of her as annoying.<\/p>\n<\/a>When I got to the table read, I discovered that the story that week was centered around the late great impressionist, Danny Gans, who was a regular on that series.\u00a0 The storyline for that episode was that he was having a party, and all of his pals were also impressionists!\u00a0 So rather than hire actors<\/em> to play the friends, they hired all real<\/em> impressionists, including people who did Joan Rivers and Robin Leach.\u00a0 And they needed a Lucy to Danny\u2019s character\u2019s Desi.\u00a0 So auburn-tressed moi got the call.<\/p>\n<\/a>However, it was tons of fun.\u00a0 I even got to do Lucy\u2019s famous, \u201cWaaaaahhhhh!\u201d<\/p>\n
