This sixtieth edition of this music awards show may have been the best Grammys ever! That\u2019s partly because I love Bruno Mars<\/strong>, who not only performed, but won multiple awards. And they were the big<\/em> ones, too! (In case you’ve been off the planet for awhile, that’s Bruno and company in the big photo at the top of the page.)<\/p>\n The show was in New York this year, (instead of the usual Los Angeles,) which I was thrilled about because that meant that all the attendant gifting suites and parties were a continent away from me! And I really needed a break from all the recent awards shows festivities.<\/p>\n Grammys Host James Corden. Love this blue suit!!! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n But I wonder if that change in location was the reason all the arrivals seemed so low-key compared to other years. I had assumed it would be crazier there because\u00a0everything<\/em>\u00a0is! But maybe the cold weather made everyone a tad quieter. (Even Rita Ora<\/strong> and Ryan Seacrest<\/strong> mentioned that it was different.)<\/p>\n I was so glad that no one on the show, or the arrivals for that matter, looked like an idiot this year, and no one tried to steal the limelight or take focus. It made the whole evening so much more enjoyable than usual.<\/p>\n And there was no horrible drama or scandal or controversy surrounding the show. \u00a0(In 2009, we had the Chris Brown-Rihanna beating, and Whitney Houston died the day before the Grammys in 2012.)<\/p>\n The whole event was really just fabulous.<\/p>\n Return host James Corden<\/strong> was perfect, as usual. He always hits just the right notes. (Like when he was introducing powerhouse performer Patti LuPone<\/strong>, he exclaimed, \u201cGet ready to clutch your pearls!\u201d See what I mean by \u201cperfect?\u201d)<\/p>\n Lady Gaga’s awful lipliner and new nose job. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n U2 <\/strong>and Elton John<\/strong> and Bruno Mars all did duets, but Lorde<\/strong> refused to do one. Is she nuts? Does she not realize what an honor that would have been to perform with a biggie like those guys???<\/p>\n Now I\u2019m going to go in order of the show, and we\u2019ll discuss the arrivals after that. Here goes:<\/p>\n THE SHOW<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Between Lady Gaga<\/strong>\u2019s awful \u201cJoker\u201d lipliner (which even Mr. X noticed–he’s actually the one who pointed it out!,) and her nose job, I didn\u2019t even recognize her!<\/p>\n Rihanna’s on-stage coat and gloves. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I think some people were a tad “overdressed” for this show!\u00a0 Like Rihanna<\/strong>‘s coat and gloves.\u00a0 Why doesn\u2019t she take them off and stay awhile?<\/p>\n I love Sam Smith<\/strong>, but I could not understand even one word of his song, outside of \u201cbones.\u201d<\/p>\n And that horrible baby-poop-green tee shirt sticking out of his lab coat was just weird for a Grammys performance.<\/p>\n I was very happy\u00a0for Alessia Cara<\/strong> to win Best New Artist. She actually deserved it.\u00a0 And she gave a sweet speech, too.<\/p>\n And that was the best she ever looked! She actually put on some make-up! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I love that when he came on, comedian Jim Gaffigan<\/strong> greeted the audience by saying, \u201cI never heard of me, either.\u201d<\/p>\n Ed Sheeran was the only\u00a0guy among four women nominees who were all up for one of only nine<\/em> on-camera awards, but wasn\u2019t there! I heard he was in town, but sleeping, so that was a tad disappointing.<\/p>\n Sarah Silverma<\/strong>n is such a miskite!<\/p>\n If Nathan Lane was Spanish, and straight, and much younger, he\u2019d look like Luis Fonsi<\/strong>. (Just picture Nathan for a second,\u00a0and you’ll see that I’m correct.)\u00a0Luis seems so sweet, but his hair does not move at all!!!<\/p>\n Luis Fonsi’s immovable hair! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n They should have made it clear that Childish Gambino<\/strong> is Donald Glover<\/strong>.\u00a0 When I saw the promos that Childish Gambino was going to be on the Grammys, I thought it was actor Donald Glover doing a bit.\u00a0 And it turned-out it is Donald, but this is his music<\/em> name.\u00a0 That\u2019s strange because you would think that he would want the public to know he does it all!\u00a0 And the funny thing is that I don\u2019t even really know who Donald Glover is except that he won an Emmy for some show I never heard of either.\u00a0 But his singing is good. He sounds like Maxwell a bit.\u00a0 Or old school Motown.<\/p>\n The Educator of the Year Award went to Melissa Salguero<\/strong> from the Bronx. I mention this only because I want to give this important award some publicity, too.<\/p>\n Kendrick Lamar<\/strong>‘s second speech was good. And I love that he ended it with \u201cJay[-Z]<\/strong> for president,\u201d and a wink.<\/p>\n Pink (as Peter Pan, perhaps?) Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I love that Pink<\/strong> is wearing regular clothing; she has on baggy\u00a0jeans and a white tee-ish shirt. They looked like it was just because she had to wear something<\/em>, rather than a fashion statement.<\/p>\n And I tweeted the biggest compliment I can give any female in show business, so I\u2019ll repeat it here: Do any of you know what character she\u2019s perfect to play??? Peter Pan! She can sing and she\u2019s very athletic, so I hope she goes for it in my lifetime.<\/p>\n Anna Kendrick, wearing her mother’s shoes, perhaps? He\u2019s the only artist I want to see in concert, and I\u2019m sick I missed my chance this summer. Sick<\/em>, I tell you!<\/p>\n But I liked his song, Finesse<\/em>, the first time I heard it\u2014when it was Bobby Brown\u2019s Every Little Step I Take<\/em>.<\/p>\n Hailee Steinfeld<\/strong> has such a fake tan.<\/p>\n My heart bleeds for Kesha<\/strong>. That poor girl is an open wound.<\/p>\n What a fun surprise Hillary Clinton<\/strong> was! Very amusing appearance.<\/p>\n Anna Kendrick<\/strong>\u2019s shoes were just dreadful. They\u2019re totally ill-fitting and make her have trouble walking. She’s practically standing on her toes in them! \u00a0She’s just asking for major back trouble down the line.<\/p>\n Ben Platt and his highlighted earlobe hair. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I\u2019m glad Elton John changed out of his flashy arrival<\/em> outfit to his flashy performance<\/em> one.<\/p>\n Was that hair that was sticking straight out of Ben Platt<\/strong>\u2019s earlobe driving anyone else crazy? Mr. X suggested that perhaps instead of a Grammy<\/em> that night, he should\u2019ve been awarded a pair of tweezers<\/em>!<\/p>\n Patti LuPone just may be the greatest female singer in the world!\u00a0 (But I actually beat her out for something back in the day\u2014a game of Musical Chairs that came down to the two of us.\u00a0 Just think if she was happy to lose even\u00a0that<\/em>!)<\/p>\n How rude are these four people who were the only ones to not stand for Patti LuPone?! Heck, three of them didn’t even applaud!!! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I was shocked to see a quartet of sour-ass people be the only ones in the entire place who did not<\/em> stand up for Patti LuPone after her incredible performance of Don\u2019t Cry For Me Argentina<\/em>! What is wrong with them?<\/p>\n Sza<\/strong> sounded terrible, especially right after Patti LuPone!<\/p>\n The only thing worse than her performance was her outfit!<\/p>\n I\u2019m so thrilled that my favorite song of recent years, 24K Magic<\/em>, won for Record of the Year, one of the two biggest awards! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n That was a good fake-out from James Corden, making it sound like he was introducing Obama, (which would have been fabulous, by the way\u2014the assemblage would have gone berserk for him!,) but it was really the President of the Recording Academy.<\/p>\n The most powerful moment of the night for me was the suicide prevention song by Logic<\/strong>, Alessia Cara, and Khalid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Edge<\/strong> has almost no Irish accent whatsoever!!<\/p>\n Boy, did Bruno Mars deserve his win for Album of the Year!!! (And I loved that earlier, he thanked his girlfriend for being with him<\/em>! Does he not realize that she\u2019s<\/em> the lucky one??? The really<\/em> lucky one!!!)<\/p>\n But darn it, Bruno–I thought I was all cried-out today when The Stranger I Love Most, Roger Federer, won his record twentieth Grand Slam title earlier that day! But then Bruno had to go and tell a story in his acceptance speech about when he was fifteen and sang songs by all the great soul writers and producers, and my waterworks began all over again. I had to go drink a liter of water to replenish all the fluids I had lost from these two incredible guys\u2019 accomplishments in that one day! Major congrats to them both! (Except for her hair, of course.)<\/p><\/div>\n E ARRIVALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n I really love that Elton John has never felt the need to reinvent himself.\u00a0 He\u2019s stayed the same for over five decades!<\/p>\n OMG\u2014Janelle Monae <\/strong>is wearing color<\/em>!!!<\/p>\n Why was Ryan Seacrest wearing glasses<\/em>? He never explained. Was it a fashion choice or a new medical situation? Inquiring minds want to know.<\/p>\n Khalid is so nice!\u00a0 That\u2019s a guy to root for.\u00a0 Ryan asked what he\u2019d like to make a reality in the next year or two, and his immediate answer was that he wants to start a foundation for music education in his hometown in Texas.<\/p>\n Cyndi Lauper. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I think Kelly Clarkson<\/strong> lost a bit of weight finally, so good for her.<\/p>\n Could poor Cyndi Lauper<\/strong> look worse?\u00a0 She needs lipstick…and a whole face make-over, actually. And some hair conditioner, too.<\/p>\n Good for James Corden!\u00a0 Ryan said, \u201cTell us everything,\u201d\u00a0and instead of falling for it and doing Ryan\u2019s work for him, he said, \u201cWhat do you want to know?\u201d<\/p>\n But James sounds exhausted. And the uber-long show he was about to host hadn\u2019t even begun yet!<\/p>\n Camila Cabello with her fabu purse and adorbs mom! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Camila Cabello<\/strong> had the absolute best purse ever! It was a sparkly disco ball!!!\u00a0 I wish I had had it in my clubbing days. (Except we Femmes Fatales, the name of my gal posse, never used purses back then; we just had a guy pal carry a lipstick in his pocket for us.)<\/p>\n And Camila\u2019s mom is the sweetest ever!<\/p>\n Hip-hopper Lil Uzi Vert<\/strong>\u2014what a conversationalist!<\/p>\n But I loved him! He made me laugh more than anyone on the red carpet. When asked how he was feeling, he answered, \u201cNormal.\u201d\u00a0 But exactly what is that to him<\/em>?\u00a0 He explained, \u201cThis is normal, this is my life, so whatever.\u201d\u00a0 In answer to what he\u2019d do if he wins, he said he’ll think about what he\u2019s going to buy<\/em> the next day!\u00a0 Then he was asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s next for you?\u201d \u00a0His answer: \u201cWaking up, eat some Pop Tarts!!!\u201d I never heard of him before that night, but now he\u2019s my favorite!<\/p>\n Hailee Steinfeld. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Hailee Steinfield<\/strong>\u2019s nose job did as much for her face as Arianna Grande\u2019s did for hers! And I mean those both as compliments. No one has ever had a nose job make them look as pretty as those two! And not look very nose-job-y, to boot!<\/p>\n But that night, she had the worst make-up job ever!<\/p>\n Hailee was wearing a basic white dress, which was nice, but she accented it with high purple boots and way too green eye make-up, neither of which worked.<\/p>\n Bebe Rexha. Like I said–WIDE!<\/p><\/div>\n Bebe Rexha<\/strong> is so pretty, but she is wi-ide!!!<\/p>\n Cardi B<\/strong> said she had butterflies in her \u201cstomach and vagina<\/em>.\u201d Classy.<\/p>\n Rita Ora asked Ryan, \u201cHow calm is this red carpet?\u201d That\u2019s just what I<\/em> was saying at the top of this review! She then added, \u201cThe most exciting thing I\u2019ve seen so far is Sting and Shaggy\u2026together.\u201d<\/p>\n CBS ARRIVALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n There was absolutely nothing to say about this inane show, with all correspondents who are trying too hard and are still unlikeable. My only comment on this entire arrivals show is that James Corden is always the nicest guy ever!\u00a0 I love him. They were cutesy idiots to him, and he didn\u2019t make them know it, as perhaps I<\/em> would have.<\/p>\n STUPID CONTROVERSIES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Now there\u2019s a big to-do about the majority of winners being male. They gave-out just nine<\/em> of the full eighty-four<\/em> categories on the show, so everyone just needs to calm down about \u201cgender inequality\u201d among the winners!!! Enough already! It\u2019s happening everywhere these days, and I\u2019m sick of it! And scared. Scared that the interesting parts of life as we know it are becoming extinct, and that soon we females will have to live on an Amazon planet, devoid of men.<\/p>\n Lil Uzi Vert. That\u2019s just the way it goes sometimes. I didn\u2019t hear them complaining when Adele won everything a couple of years ago, did you?!<\/p>\n If they\u2019re so worried about it, maybe the Grammys should go back to having separate male and female categories. Women fought to be on an equal playing field with men, so this is what they get. [Sidebar: When my TV show was in its beginning stages, I guess there weren\u2019t too many funny girls around because I often got called in to audition for commercials where I was the only female. Of course I didn\u2019t get it, but that\u2019s the breaks\u2014they really wanted a guy, which is why the breakdown called for a male for the role. And I was just grateful to begin breaking down the doors for females to be thought of as funny. I didn\u2019t call for the producers\u2019 heads<\/em>!
