EMMYS 2017<\/h1>\n
\"I'm<\/a>

I’m putting this photo of Nicole Kidman right at the top because her outfit is perfect! I doubt that even one other person noticed this nuance, but look at her interesting shoes. They have the accents in opposite places on each shoe!<\/p><\/div>\n

This is not my most comprehensive awards show review because I let out most of my venom (and lauding) live on Twitter on Sunday, as it was all happening but thank goodness I have a little somethin\u2019-somethin\u2019 left for my non<\/em>-Twitter followers.<\/p>\n

So, let\u2019s get to my many thoughts that did not make it into a tweet. And trust me\u2014there are still many<\/em>!<\/p>\n

SHOW<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[Note: I\u2019m going out of order and beginning with the actual show rather than at the beginning with the arrivals, because over the years, it\u2019s become clear that\u2019s what you, my readers, want to hear the most about. But, please, if you have time, do not miss my arrivals coverage, right after this section. It\u2019s juicy!]<\/p>\n

Steven Colbert<\/strong> was a dreadful host!\u00a0 Actually, worse<\/em> than dreadful.\u00a0 He turned out to be the worst choice possible.\u00a0 Since it was on CBS this year, the host had to be someone on that network, but how about James Corden??? He\u2019s hosted the Tonys and the Grammys and was fabulous at both, so he should have been the obvious choice. Perhaps they asked him, but between his nightly show and his wife being preggers, he declined. But they should have begged.<\/p>\n

\"See<\/a>

See what I mean about Nicole Kidman’s shoes? I love them! Do any of you remember when I always wore two different-colored sneakers?<\/p><\/div>\n

The weird thing is that they had that offensive announcer, because they wanted to go younger and what they thought was hipper, for the show, so why would they book stuffy old Colbert as the host? It\u2019s a head scratcher.<\/p>\n

So, while we\u2019re on the topic of that horrible, classless, grating-voiced announcer, let\u2019s discuss.\u00a0 I know what they were going for, (as cited above,) but it was just offensive, especially for a show that\u2019s semi-classy.\u00a0 (At one point, Mr. X, who\u2019s a krump dancer, so he\u2019s in the urban lifestyle himself, said that he was surprised the person didn\u2019t end his yelling announcements with \u201cbitch.\u201d) \u00a0We actually don\u2019t even know if it was a man or woman shouting until they showed him. Mr. X was positive it was a woman, but I literally had no idea. He was disgusting, until the producers obviously read my tweets, (and I\u2019m sure other people\u2019s, as well,) and told him to tone it down. (I\u2019m not just saying<\/em> that; this is what I tweeted during the show, and then it happened right afterwards: \u201cThat classless voice needs 2 be fired right now, in the middle of the show! The announcer is supposed 2 add to the show, not ruin it!\u201d)<\/p>\n

\"And<\/a>

By the way, prior to that, I had no idea who half the presenters were because the shouts of that awful announcer were so hard to understand.\u00a0 I truly understand that they felt the need for what is euphemistically referred to as \u201cdiversity\u201d these days, but if so, how about a wonderful \u201cethnic\u201d voice, such as James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman? Hiring someone who speaks like the guy they went with just looks bad for black people, like the producers think that that\u2019s what all black people sound like. The choice was offensive, for everyone<\/em>!<\/p>\n

So, back to Colbert\u2019s schtick–at least there was a lot of anti-Trump stuff, which, of course, I, and I think the entire assemblage, was thrilled about.<\/p>\n

\"Lily<\/a>

That was actually a very fun bit with Sean Spicer<\/strong>. He was a good sport to do that.<\/p>\n

What hope is there for the world when even Lily Tomlin<\/strong> has a new face?! \u00a0 Jane Fonda<\/strong> does, too, but that\u2019s expected.<\/p>\n

Boy, did John Lithgow<\/strong>‘s acceptance speech bomb! That phony telling his fellow nominees that they “deserved the win” was met with total silence! Good for the \u201closers\u201d to not buy into that baloney.<\/p>\n

\"Gina<\/a>

Did anyone else notice that there were six nominees in every category this year, rather than five? I think that\u2019s because there appears to be hundreds of shows on these days, most of which I\u2019ve never seen, and many of which I\u2019ve never even heard<\/em> of!!!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s funny that Robert DeNiro<\/strong> took off his glasses when Colbert pointed him out. I would have never expected even the least bit of vanity from the guy!<\/p>\n

What was in Gina Rodriguez<\/strong>\u2019s mind to choose a dress that showed a totally bare boys-type-of chest? It could not have been more unattractive. (It\u2019s the same way when any<\/em> of the idiot women do it!)<\/p>\n

Kate McKinnon<\/strong> was really moved by her win, which was nice to see, especially from a comedienne.<\/p>\n

\"I<\/a>

I was being kind to use this very pretty picture of Reese Witherspoon, but I hope you can still see how awful and dark her face make-up was. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n

Reese Witherspoon<\/strong> needs to fire her make-up person, pronto. She looked like she was in blackface!<\/p>\n

And what was up with her ugly ill-fitting dress?! I swear, I had that same dress in 1995<\/em>, only in red, and not that classless shiny fabric. And, most importantly…it fit me!!!<\/p>\n

Alec Baldwin<\/strong>\u2019s win was so undeserved. He won just because everyone hates Trump. The Emmys organizers should absolutely not<\/em> put sketch performers against comedy actors<\/em>. There are so many categories already, so why not just add a few so that these entertainers can be in two different ones?<\/p>\n

\"Reese<\/a>

John Oliver<\/strong> saying at the end of his speech, \u201cPlay me off, please,\u201d was one of the most honest things I\u2019ve heard on an awards show! Good for him!<\/p>\n

The best part of the show (at the time, I had tweeted \u201cso far,\u201d but it really turned-out to be \u201cperiod,\u201d) was the bit that James Corden <\/strong>and Seth Meyers<\/strong> did when presenting. It really did turn-out to be the only<\/em> good part! And it was so true<\/em>. They were saying how phony everyone is to make believe that they watch each others’ shows, when we all know they have no time for any of that! As Mr. X pointed-out, it would be great if they could host together next year, but because of the roving networks who broadcast the show, it has to be only one guy from that particular network. And since these two are on competing ones, our hope for a joint host-ship will never come to fruition. Shame.<\/p>\n

\"Priyanks<\/a>

Priyanks Chopra. She’s gorgeous, but she needs to stop always drooping that right shoulder down. She does it in every photo!<\/p><\/div>\n

Ann Dowd<\/strong>\u2019s speech (whoever she is,) was the loveliest and most heartfelt perhaps ever<\/em>!<\/p>\n

That woman who won with Aziz Ansari<\/strong> for co-writing an episode of Masters of None<\/em> with him was unbelievably rude to him!!! She took up all<\/em> the speech time, so that he didn’t even get to say a word! And he\u2019s the creator and star of the show! Who gave her<\/em> the job! He really should fire her, pronto. I hate people like that, who are all about themselves. She took time to thank her personal people, like her girlfriend, and talk about her LGBT community, when she should have been normal enough to share the spotlight with him<\/em>, as he did with her<\/em>. Disgusting.<\/p>\n

Director winner Reed Moreno<\/strong>\u2019s speech was awful.\u00a0 But why did they bleep her?\u00a0 I think she was just saying a name.<\/p>\n

I love Seth McFarland<\/strong>\u2019s real<\/em> voice.\u00a0 So it\u2019s a bonus that he\u2019s such a talented voice\u00a0artist<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"BDn<\/a>

I absolutely adored that beautiful Priyanka Chopra<\/strong> didn\u2019t feel the need to pop-out her boobs, or wear a sleeveless gown.\u00a0 She rocked!<\/p>\n

But Nicole Kidman<\/strong>\u2019s beautiful red frock was perhaps the best awards show dress ever! And she gave a great speech, too!<\/p>\n

How rude of them to cut the mike during Sterling K. Brown<\/strong>\u2019s speech!!! He was giving a good, heartfelt one, and was not even close to rambling, and his win was for a major award, so it looked even worse for the powers-that-be to do it. Yet, they had allowed Nicole Kidman to go on and on. So, they bend over backwards to look \u201cdiverse,\u201d but cut the words of one of the few black actors to win an award. Stupid, stupid move, on every level.<\/p>\n

\"Tatiana<\/a>

BD Wong<\/strong> should never stand next to Matt Bomer<\/strong> ever again.<\/p>\n

Anika Noni Rose<\/strong> was lovely to her co-presenter Cicily Tyson. (By the way, Cicily kept wondering why she was forgetting her lines. Here\u2019s a guess\u2014maybe because she\u2019s ninety-two<\/em>!!! But she looked incredible!)<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not familiar with Tatiana Maslany<\/strong>‘s work, (I do<\/em> know that she won an acting award last year,) but she looked perfect, on every level.<\/p>\n

E! ARRIVALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I was not familiar with host Jason Kennedy<\/strong> before, except as the guy who\u2019s married to Lauren Scruggs, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover a red carpet host who’s actually genuine!<\/p>\n

I watch a lot<\/em> of TV, but I really don\u2019t know who many of these people are!<\/p>\n

Rachel Bloom<\/strong> may just be the most talented female on TV, (James Cordon is the male one,) but why didn\u2019t anyone tell her her eye make-up was all smudged under her eyes?\u00a0 And at the beginning of the arrivals interviews, no less!\u00a0 But I love that she bought her own dress.<\/p>\n

\"Padma<\/a>

I love that Anthony Anderson<\/strong>\u2019s wife said the secret to relationship longevity is \u201cpatience\u2026and understanding.\u201d\u00a0 As one who knows, I can tell you that she is correct! And I<\/em> add good senses of humor, too!<\/p>\n

OMG\u2014That is absolutely the best that Padma Lakshmi<\/strong> looked!\u00a0 Maybe because she\u2019s covering half of her usually funny-looking face.\u00a0 The change may just be due to her new hair-cut, but if it\u2019s because of plastic surgery, too, that was a smart move to also cut her hair to deflect from that.<\/p>\n

That was possibly the worst adorable Julianne Hough<\/strong> has ever looked!\u00a0 What a bad dress!<\/p>\n

\"Tracee<\/a>

Tracee Ellis Ross.<\/p><\/div>\n

I half hate and half love Tracee Ellis Ross<\/strong>\u2019 weird Jack Frost dress. It looks like she melted down a few of her mother\u2019s old costumes and then sewed parts of them back together.<\/p>\n

OMG\u2014Sarah Hyland<\/strong>‘s spanx are sticking-up over her dress onto her bare stomach!!!<\/p>\n

Shockingly, Leslie Jones<\/strong> seemed so nice.\u00a0 This is the first time she was like that because she wasn\u2019t doing her usual screaming, that she thinks is so funny but is definitely anything but<\/em>!\u00a0 I saw her at an Emmys Suite the day before, and she was nice to everyone there, as well. On a sidebar, I am happy to see someone become successful in show business so late in life, (she\u2019s almost fifty,) but she\u2019s just so annoying to watch. And worse to listen to! [Note: This is my first mixed review this time! Yay! I\u2019m getting hot now!]<\/p>\n

\"Shailene<\/a>

Nicole Kidman looked gorgeous in her dress, but too bad her face isn\u2019t recognizable anymore!<\/p>\n

At one point, I said out loud, \u201cWho is this bad-looking woman who looks like a bag lady, rather than an Emmys attendee?\u201d\u00a0 I still don’t know, but why would anyone let her hair look like that at an awards show??? [Note: After the telecast, Mr. X and I binge-watched all seven episodes of Big Little Lies<\/em>, and I realized\u00a0this woman was Shailene Woodley<\/strong>, who was good in the show, but looked awful at the Emmys.] With her bare white chest, she actually looked like a washwoman.<\/p>\n

Heidi Klum<\/strong> could not have looked more atrocious!\u00a0 Mr. X took one look at her and said, \u201cThis is why bras were invented.\u201d\u00a0 And her make-up looked like Stevie Wonder did it! I would really think that a model, who\u2019s always in the public eye, would know better.<\/p>\n

\"Sarah<\/a>

There was no dress uglier than Sarah Paulson<\/strong>\u2019s!\u00a0 Ugh.<\/p>\n

I usually don\u2019t like shoes like this, but I did admire Claire Foy<\/strong>\u2019s uber-thin stilettos.\u00a0 I can\u2019t imagine that they\u2019re comfortable, though.<\/p>\n

Basketball star Dwayne Wade<\/strong> did not look comfortable there, escorting wife Gabrielle Union<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Once again, Susan Sarandon<\/strong> was featuring her wrinkly old cleavage.\u00a0 Why???<\/p>\n

Emmy Rossum<\/strong> probably looked the best overall.\u00a0 Good black dress, nothing physically wrong, lovely simple emerald earrings and ring, and basic light pink short nails.\u00a0 I loved her look!<\/p>\n

\"Chrissy<\/a>

Evan Rachel Wood<\/strong> is the most composed person I\u2019ve ever seen!\u00a0 I\u2019m not even familiar with much of her work, but I love her.\u00a0 She\u2019s who I would most like to be friends with in the biz.<\/p>\n

If one more person tells Chrissy Metz<\/strong> she looks great, I\u2019m going to vomit!\u00a0 It\u2019s not that I\u2019m a fat-shamer, but we have to be honest\u2014no one that huge looks great!\u00a0 And, as I tweeted, I thought she was contractually obligated to lose weight for the show, but it looks like she\u2019s gained<\/em> instead!\u00a0 I read that the producers recently said that the agreement is basically not in stone, but I\u2019m sure that\u2019s because they really don\u2019t have a choice at this point.\u00a0 They\u2019re not going to fire one of the main components of the narrative!<\/p>\n

KTLA ARRIVALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When they interviewed This Is Us<\/em>\u2019 Ron Sephus Jones<\/strong>, he was accompanied by his daughter, Jasmine.\u00a0 The goony hosts on this channel’s coverage (who wouldn’t keep their hands off all the celebs, which was just weird,) referred to her as \u201cdaughter,\u201d and treated her as a plus one, but they really missed the boat\u2014she\u2019s one of the stars of Hamilton<\/em> on Broadway!!!<\/p>\n

I literally had to fast forward past William H. Macy<\/strong> because I was eating when he and his wife came on, and he makes me literally queasy.\u00a0 Someone, buy that creep some shampoo!!!\u00a0 Ugh.<\/p>\n

There was no one I liked more than The Handmaid Tale<\/em>\u2019s O.T. Fagbenli<\/strong>, whom I had never ever seen, nor heard of, before!\u00a0 He said he was hungry, and when they gave him a bag of M&Ms, he casually started eating them right away!\u00a0 The most genuine, least obnoxious person ever on a red carpet!<\/p>\n

James Corden is so honest and lovely.\u00a0 And you can tell he\u2019s not into that fawning, phony nonsense that most of the others do.\u00a0 I love that guy!<\/p>\n

I’m sorry but I don’t get why Zoe Kravitz<\/strong> is considered so good-looking.<\/p>\n

But I loved how natural and regular she is.<\/p>\n

I want to end on the perfect outfit, so here’s Emmy Rossum.<\/p><\/div>\n
