<\/a>The victorious, and oh so classy and well-spoken, Roger Federer. Love that guy!!!<\/p><\/div>\n
Then there was finally some good<\/em> news; great<\/em> news actually\u2014Roger Federer<\/strong>, The Stranger I Love Most, won his record eighteenth Grand Slam title!!! I could not even watch the Final of the Australian Open, between Roger and his arch-rival for over a decade, Rafael Nadal, because I was too nervous. Thank goodness it was played overnight in America, so I could just wake-up to the news. (But too bad I didn\u2019t check the results until after<\/em> I had done my make-up for a major fashion brunch I was on my way to!!! Of, course, I was a sobbing mess, so I had to re-do it all.)<\/p>\n The elegant and regal Miss Haiti, who should have won Miss Universe.<\/p><\/div>\n Then the uber-long day and night, (after the brunch, the SAG arrivals, and then the SAG Awards themselves,) finally finished-up with Miss Universe, but the wrong girl won, so I was upset all over again. \u00a0The winner should have absolutely been Miss Haiti, and if not her, then Miss Colombia. \u00a0Based on their answers to the penultimate and then final questions, I did<\/em> want Miss France to come in third, but a distant third. \u00a0So, after all those ups and downs of the week-end, it ended on a miserable note for me.\u00a0 (And for all of Haiti, too, I\u2019d assume.)<\/p>\n But Mr. X and I cheered ourselves up at midnight by watching the end of Roger\u2019s match, to see his jubilant win, which no one thought he would ever again achieve. Everyone had written-off his chances of winning another Major, except for me. I thought<\/em> he could do it, but even I<\/em> was a bit worried since his knee injury last year. I was really afraid that that debacle had perhaps signaled the end of his illustrious career. So this win was extra-amazing to witness. I\u2019m actually still crying this morning, just writing about it. So, major kudos to Roger Federer!\u00a0 He\u2019s the most mentally stable person I\u2019ve ever known of.\u00a0 I\u2019m so grateful to be alive during his reign.<\/p>\n Okay, so now let\u2019s finally get to the SAG Awards, which were a bit hard to concentrate on during this jam-packed week-end.\u00a0 I\u2019m thrilled that so many of the winners, and some presenters, as well, spoke out against the new Hitlerian laws that were made by the evil, dangerous ego-maniac in the White House. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n One note on this entire 2017 awards season–it seems to have absolutely flown by!\u00a0 I finished seeing all the nominated flicks early on, and was never rushed, or behind, to get them viewed before our SAG voting deadline. The whole shebang really seemed kind of easy breezy this year.<\/p>\n Few of the people I voted for won, but que sera, sera. (That\u2019s the old school Spanish version of \u201coh well,\u201d or \u201cwhatevs.\u201d)\u00a0 My only winner in Film was the cast of Hidden Figures<\/em>,\u00a0and in the TV category, I had the ladies: Claire Foy<\/strong>, Julia Louis-Dreyfus<\/strong>, and Sarah Paulson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n But,\u00a0because I’m a proud member of SAG who always takes my voting seriously, (and\u00a0am also a bit shallow,) I did<\/em> jot down a few\u00a0notes to share with you during the arrivals and show. As usual with awards shows,\u00a0I had already tweeted most of my bon mots, but no worries–you can still read them on there @MajorCelebrity<\/strong>. My heart wasn’t totally in it this time, though.<\/p>\n So here are the rest of my thoughts on the proceedings, in the order that they happened.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ariel Winter. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n ARRIVALS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n E seemed to be the only channel doing the arrival interviews this time. Strange. I guess some people just don\u2019t take the SAGs as seriously as others do. So, these are my thoughts on those, that didn\u2019t make it into a tweet, for some reason or another:<\/p>\n Anna Chlumsky<\/strong>\u2014oysh.\u00a0 Poor girl is always a mess, and so goony.<\/p>\n I think that desperate Ariel Winter<\/strong> thinks<\/em> she looks like Kylie Jenner. Sad.<\/p>\n james Marsden and son. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n How is James Marsden<\/strong> old enough to have a sixteen-year-old son???\u00a0 They\u2019re a cute father-son combo.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really familiar with James or his work, but I liked his message of being \u201cdecent human beings to each other.\u201d Good dad. And person! (So handsome, too.)<\/p>\n Gwendoline Christie<\/strong>\u2019s bright red lipstick was feathering all over the place.\u00a0 And against her yellow teeth, not a good look.<\/p>\n Naomie Harris. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I love that\u00a0Naomie Harris<\/strong>\u00a0doesn\u2019t mind showing-off her\u00a0non<\/em>-rack. That\u2019s a secure chick!<\/p>\n Octavia Spencer<\/strong> is always so sweet. She\u2019s one person I\u2019d like to be friends with.<\/p>\n Kaley Cuoco<\/strong> looked awful! That was a hideous dress, (it looked very much like one I wore to play dress-up in when I was little,) and she wore an awful, not-the-hip-kind messy bun, which looked like she was going to clean the house before washing her hair.<\/p>\n Jim Parsons<\/strong>, who was being interviewed alongside Kaley, kept trying to tell the story of how he wound-up sitting at the Hidden Figures<\/em> table, rather than the expected Big Bang Theory<\/em> one. And I was dying to hear it, as I\u2019m sure many<\/em> of us were. But Kaley kept interrupting him, thinking she was doing a funny bit, so we never got to hear the tale. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Talking about an anthology series she was in, Bryce Dallas Howard<\/strong> stated, \u201cEvery episode is an anthology.\u201d\u00a0 What an incorrect statement.\u00a0 Someone needs to get that girl a dictionary!!!<\/p>\n I love that Evan Rachel Wood<\/strong> wore pants again.\u00a0 She\u2019s so classy looking.\u00a0 How did she ever date Marilyn Manson?!<\/p>\n I\u2019m saying this out loud only because they\u2019re successful, so it won\u2019t hurt them, but William H. Macy <\/strong>and Felicity Huffman<\/strong> are such an awful-looking couple, (who seem to think that they\u2019re very attractive.) \u00a0I realized that seeing them always makes my face curl up.\u00a0 Seriously.<\/p>\n Janelle Monae. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Janelle Monae<\/strong> always dresses in only black and white, right down to her nails.\u00a0 She has such a beautiful little face, with beautiful skin.\u00a0 Her hair-do last night, though, with jeweled Mickey Mouse ears, was just crazy.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n THE SHOW<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The SAGs are always a cut-and-dry affair. There\u2019s no witty banter, nor long entrances. No music or comedy. It\u2019s just basically, the awards show version of wham, bang, thank you ma\u2019am. So, there\u2019s really not much to say about it. But I\u2019ll try:<\/p>\n Jeff Bridges, and his pretty wife. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Jeff Bridges<\/strong>\u2019 wife is still so pretty.\u00a0 And I was glad to see that he<\/em> finally looks better, too.<\/p>\n Sterling K. Brown<\/strong> looks so much better in glasses than without them. (Some people just do.)<\/p>\n When Ashton Kutcher<\/strong> stated at the outset, \u201cI am a citizen of the world,\u201d I thought he was going to rant on what\u2019s happening in the world. He did, a bit, in his next little patter, but it was all just kind-of poorly planned. What he said<\/em> was good, but he just seemed like the wrong one to deliver that message. But this was the best he\u2019s looked<\/em> in a long time.<\/p>\n Taraji P. Henson. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n As I alluded to above, they get right to it at the SAGs. It is a bit jarring, actually.<\/p>\n Gina Rodriguez<\/strong> looked good. Her dress, hair, and make-up were all pretty basic, but it worked.<\/p>\n That was the absolute best that Sarah Paulson ever looked!<\/p>\n Taraji P. Henson<\/strong> got so screwed in the nominations. She didn\u2019t receive a nod for either Hidden Figures<\/em> in the Film category, nor Empire<\/em> in the Television one, but she deserved them both<\/em>! How was that even possible??? (Thank goodness that the film\u2019s Ensemble won later, so we got to hear her good speech at the end of the night.) She looked great, too. I loved that her muted lipstick exactly matched her dress!<\/p>\n Kate Hudson. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Orange is the New Black<\/em> has the strangest looking cast.<\/p>\n Why would Kate Hudson<\/strong> feature her \u201cDopey\u201d ears??? (I have the same ones, so I can say it, but I would never let them stick-out like that, if I can help it.) And I noticed that she squints a lot, so just put on some glasses! Why do some people still think they\u2019re taboo??? Eyeglasses are actually a wonderful fashion accessory!<\/p>\n I have one word for Marcia Clark<\/strong>\u2014sleeves. \u00a0(Please refer to the photo near the top of this page.)<\/p>\n It\u2019s a bit hard for me to look at Viola Davis<\/strong> this year, now that I keep noticing that in every role she plays, she lets her snot run into her mouth, and does not even attempt to wipe it! No one does that while crying in real<\/em> life, unless they\u2019re a slob! And she also seems to spit a bit when pronouncing her initial \u201cp\u201ds. She needs to clean it all up. (Actually, she\u2019s doing fine the way she is. We nose-wipers should be so lucky!)<\/p>\n Now you, too, will never be able to look at Viola Davis without seeing this picture in your mind! Enough with the tired old boob jokes already, but that doesn\u2019t really matter; she always brings a smile to all of our faces.<\/p>\n But this was funny\u2014she told Lifetime Achievement award recipient, Lily Tomlin<\/strong>, \u201cCome on up and get your award!\u201d Such a strange way to present something with such gravitas. But so Dolly.<\/p>\n [Note: At this point, on Twitter, I promised to share my two personal stories of Lily Tomlin. I\u2019ll do that at the very end of this column.]<\/p>\n I was upset that a guy was so rude to be sitting there in a baseball cap. He turned-out to be\u00a0a Stranger Things<\/em> cast member.
