(But don’t worry–I’ll still post from the east coast, [oh look–a rhyme,] so please don’t forget to check-out this site every day.) They’re all worth knowing about, so better late than never. And they all involve beauty of some sort, (hip sunglasses, body wear, face products, and eyelashes,) so I figured they’d make a good column together.

SOLSTICE SUNGLASSES LAUNCH

What better way to launch a new shopping site than with a luncheon at a delightful new eatery? And that’s exactly what SolsticeSunglasses.com did recently. In addition to buying hip Solstice sunglasses at their many boutiques, you can now do it from the comfort of your computer.

We shared in the company’s celebration at fabulous new-ish restaurant Eveleigh on the Sunset Strip. (Neither my hippest friend, Lucia, nor I, the queen of the hipsters, even knew of this almost secret location! That made it even more fun.)

The food was as colorful and well-arranged as it was delicious, the chef I spoke with was darling, and the space, which is mainly on a covered patio, was absolutely lovely. Very relaxing afternoon. (I hope to do a real review of it by early next year.)

That’s Ashlee Simpson with the short blonde hair.

Among the scenesters who were trying-on the many luxury, designer, and sport sunglasses brands was Ashlee Simpson, looking very Peter Pan-esque in her new super-short blonde ’do. (Wouldn’t it be funny if she, in turn, was telling her friends that “Karen still looked very Cher-esque in her never-changing long brunette ’do?”)

Every launch of anything should be this lovely! Props to Solstice (and their PR team,) for doing it right!

TAMMY SEGELL AT CHRISTOPHER HILL SALON

A few months back, I was visiting a very pampered pal, and in walked this nice girl I had never seen before. Turns out, she’s Tammy Segell, an aesthetician at the Christopher Hill Salon in Brentwood, who also makes house calls, when she can find time in her busy schedule. (She’s also a jewelry designer, under her full name Tamara Segell, and leads the activities at the new craze of make-your-own-jewelry parties.) She was there that day to wax my pal’s whole body and dye her eyelashes and brows. (Pampered enough for you?)

I had dyed my lashes only once, when I first came out to L.A. as a teen-ager, and it burned so much (remember, though, that it was back in the day) that I was scared to death the whole time. When I told my mother about it, (like an idiot!–why worry her after the fact?,) she made me promise to never do it again.

And I kept that promise for all these years. (Well, since I was a teen-ager then, it hasn’t been that many years.) Until, that is, I watched Tammy’s caring technique and saw how my friend’s lashes, and those of her beautiful daughter, came-out. So, since I don’t love wearing make-up in New York, and like to be able to just run out the door to spend time with friends at a moment’s notice, I figured I’d break my promise, (with my mother’s permission–she didn’t even know what I was talking about, and yet I was true to my word–so, kudos to me!,) and do it for the holidays.

I don’t need to beckon anyone to my home to beautify me, so I went to the salon, which turned-out to be located in that fun Brentwood Village on Barrington.

Tammy was so gentle and fast doing my lashes that I didn’t even realize she was also dying and shaping my brows! Mr. X noticed them right away. And I met a pal after, to look around the area, and she thought that I had individual lashes done!

The best part is that Tammy’s a really nice, non-judgmental girl who doesn’t try to talk you into stuff you don’t need. And I heard her on the phone to her young son the day I met her and a kinder, gentler mom I can’t imagine. There’s no better kind-of person to trust your looks to.

NIGHT OF BEAUTY

As an avid viewer of the now-defunct Extreme Makeover, (the people version, not the home,) I was glad to be invited to a “Night of Beauty” at the office of one of the show’s dermatologists, Ava Shamban.

Knock on wood that my skin is one of good points, and I don’t believe in plastic surgery or fillers (yet,) but I saw her help many patients in need on the show, so I was happy to meet her. And being such a girlie-girl, I love anything to do with beauty.

The PR people did a great job because the place was packed! And with all women. Some really needed the doctor’s services, so they were at the right place! (You know who you are.)

As we entered, we were given little white mesh bags, and we went from treatment room to treatment room, basically “trick-or-treating” for product samples, which was more fun than getting a pre-made goodie bag. This way, we could collect only what we were interested in and there was no waste. In some of the rooms, we found-out what the samples were for and given specific ones for our skin.

They had a bar set-up in the waiting room, with some healthy juices in addition to wine, but, of course, my favorite part was David Catering’s fabulous snacks. They were simple, filling, delicious, and most importantly at a crowded function such as this, easy to hold. Maybe even better than the food itself was the absolutely lovely and accommodating demeanor of Giovanni Polanco, the adorable server.

Good food, good company, and beauty products and info–what more could a girl want?

INVEL US LAUNCH PARTY

Karen Salkin with Pele.

Invel, a Brazilian Performance Technology Products company, held a lovely cocktail party at the Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate their US launch.

Being that science was my worst subject in school, except for heredity stuff, I still don’t understand these Invel products, but it has something to do with body temperature and thermal effects.

Brazilian women are among the sexiest in the world, so this stuff must work! Speaking of Brazilian women–they’re somewhat more robust, shall we say, than US women, so, with my newfound poundage, I fit right in! If I’m not able to exercise soon, (because of my back,) I just may have to move there!

But the best part of the event to me, even more than the delicious, healthful repast, is that I got to meet Pele! The legendary soccer player, Pele! I’m in awe. He’s the original guy who got the world interested in soccer, way before David Beckham. He’s definitely a national hero south of the border.

And he was so lovely to me. He even got up from dinner to take a picture with me! He didn’t for anyone else, and I said that I could just lean down to him, but being a real gentleman, he leapt to his feet, grabbed me tight around the waist, and even put my hands together as we parted and kissed them!!! I still can’t believe that Pele kissed my hands! I keep telling Mr. X that even though I think American guys may be over me, there’s always Brazilian guys. I didn’t realize just how right I am!

So, to sum up, excellent light buffet, learning about a great new shapewear products and hanging with Pele–now that’s what I call a worthwhile cocktail party!

BEAUTY LOOSE ENDS Before I left for New York for the holiday, I managed to get to a few events that I didn’t have time to tell you about before.
