So, when my hair color needed refreshing for all my Emmys Week events, (and my bangs were not only too long, but confusing,) that’s where I headed…on a Sunday morning, no less! I thought Paul had opened just for me that day, but no– he’s always<\/em> open on Sundays, which is quite the amazing, and useful, discovery!<\/p>\n What a comfortable experience this was! I love<\/em> this one-man salon! There was no baloney here, no loud noises, no stylists chatting when they should be paying attention to your hair. It was all a pleasure!<\/p>\n Another pleasure was how non-abusive Paul was about my hair. He’s secure enough in his own work that, (unlike most other stylists I’ve been to,) that he didn’t feel the need to put down what my last hair guy had done. And he listened<\/em> to me about what I like. He’s so unlike the stylists who scare me, and make me to uncomfortable the whole time.<\/p>\n Paul Ohana. Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n Paul Ohana is nice, quick, and peaceful.\u00a0And talented, too, of course! He inspired my trust so much that when he suggested a bit of layering, as opposed to my usual long, straight one-length hair, I went with it. It looks great, but I’m still me, so I can’t help but panic over it a bit, but I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my tresses in a very, very long time, including from Mr. X!!!<\/p>\n Even more amazing was the reaction from my most critical friend, who I don’t think has ever complimented my looks in our decades of friendship. She was hosting a big dinner the next night, and when I had been there for just a few minutes, she said, (without my telling her I had had my hair done,) “that is the best haircut you’ve ever had in your whole life!” I was shocked. He also colored my hair, (an exact match by the way,) with no digging around in my roots to make like he’s about to paint a Michelangelo! He started mixing it up within a minute of getting me settled. When I asked if he wanted to study my color a bit, he told me he already got it looking at me. And it could not have come out looking more perfect!<\/p>\n Paul dyed my brows and lashes, as well. And when all my colors were correct, he did a beautiful easy breezy blow-out, just like ones I see on other girls, and wonder how they do it. And he did all that in under two hours, which is a record.\u00a0 And with no rushing whatsoever. I couldn’t believe it!<\/p>\n Paul is a very charming, amusing, conscientious, caring, and best of all, honest guy. I seriously can’t tell you how comfortable I felt in his hair studio. He put me at ease from the get-go. I really felt that I was hanging-out with an old friend.<\/p>\n The other end, with the mess I made that day in the middle. Mr. X loves the flooring! Photo by Karen Salkin.<\/p><\/div>\n I asked what aspect of doing hair he enjoyed the most, and he answered that it was creating the whole picture, like on a blank canvas. But he doesn’t do anything crazy, making like the client’s head is his<\/em> vision. He doesn’t make it about himself at all<\/em>. I watched him with several other clients a bit, (not only on this particular visit, but on the previous times I met him, and on a subsequent visit for my own locks,) and he was the same kind, even-tempered guy he was with me.<\/p>\n It doesn’t hurt that he’s so good-looking himself! I don’t mean to flirt with, (though I’m sure many of his female clients love to do just that,) but since he styles his own look so well, I trust his eye even more.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a><\/a>
