<\/a>So, since it falls on otherwise-unoccupied dates this time, Hannukah gets its own column from me.<\/p>\nBut there’s not much to ever say about it, expect to wish all my peeps a happy one.<\/p>\n
The one observation I have about this holiday, especially as a writer (and a stickler for all things spelling and grammar and speaking correctly,) is that I’ve always been uncomfortable about the spelling of it.<\/p>\n
As I even just typed the word into the title of this column, I got unsure of myself. I know there are different spellings of the word, but writing it still makes me anxious. I always want to do right by the English language.<\/p>\n
I notice that my hands just usually type it the way I did above. But, in my ever-present attempts to do things right, I just Googled it. And found that, not only is the above<\/em> correct, along with two alternate ways I would have spelled it, but there are several other, as well!<\/p>\nThese are the most popular ones I found: Hanukkah, Chanukah, Hannukah, Chanuka, Chanukkah, Hanuka, Channukah, Chanukka. All I can say is, \u201cOy gevalt!\u201d<\/p>\n
So, no matter how<\/em> you spell it, if you celebrate it, I wish you a Very Happy Hannukah!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HAPPY HANNUKAH 2014 I’m so glad that Hannukah gets eight nights all to itself this year.
