SUPERBOWL XLVIII<\/h1>\n

This will be a quick one because there was absolutely nothing to write home about regarding this year’s Superbowl between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. The game itself was the worst ever, especially for those of us who were rooting for Peyton Manning and the Broncos. (That sounds like a sixties group, doesn’t it?) And the commercials, as a whole, weren’t especially wonderful or<\/em> horrible, the halftime show was excellent but not special, and there wasn’t even any controversy. Even the sportscasters were neither here nor there!<\/p>\n

So, here are the few notes I was interested enough to jot down during the interminable game. Let’s begin with the commercials because after all, aren’t they the most important part of any Superbowl Sunday?<\/p>\n

The emotional end of the Steve Gleason Microsoft ad.<\/p><\/div>\n

I was nauseated by the Chevy Silverado one about a bull who’s about to rape some cows. Or at least that’s what it looked like to me. It was absolutely disgusting! I almost threw-up from seeing the bull looking at the cows with drool coming off his lips, close-up. This is the first time I was ever wishing I had a smaller<\/em> TV!<\/p>\n

I loved the great Cheerios one with a couple telling their young daughter that they’re having a baby, and the little girl defiantly adds, \u201cAnd a puppy.\u201d It’s also so interesting that they showed a mixed race family, which is happening more and more in ads these days. That must outrage the bigots!<\/p>\n

I’m ashamed of Go Daddy, this very e-zine’s web host, for their very rude \u201clive job-quitting\u201d spots. The people who are quitting their jobs on these ads, to \u201cpursue their dreams,\u201d or something like that, should be grateful they had jobs to make the money to afford them the opportunities to follow their passions to begin with! We, as a society, need to to stop teaching kids that it’s cool to be rude!!! It definitely is not<\/em>!<\/p>\n

I hate to say it, but the Tim Tebow ads were pretty good.<\/p>\n

The winner, of course, for anyone who has even a semblance of a heart, was the Microsoft technology commercial, featuring former NFL player, Steve Gleason, who now is living with ALS. It totally choked me up. I was so engrossed in the message that I didn’t even notice what company it was advertising! I had to look it up on-line because I couldn’t go back on my DVR or I’d be behind on the game, which I didn’t want to be. For most of the game, I was actually wishing that I could have gone ahead<\/em>!<\/p>\n

HALFTIME SHOW<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Bruno Mars halftime show.<\/p><\/div>\n

Bruno Mars did great! His was close to being the perfect halftime show; it didn’t take away from the game, but gave us some fun, upbeat music, even though I could have lived without the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I know that all these recent half-time performers feel they need a special surprise act to come on with them for part of the fifteen or so minutes, but the Chilis just didn’t go with Bruno. At all.<\/p>\n

I love so many of Bruno’s songs! I just hate Runaway<\/em>, which is perhaps his biggest hit. But Locked Out of Heaven<\/em> and Treasure<\/em> are two of my all-time faves!<\/p>\n

Bruno’s the only recent headliner who’s only<\/em> current, with no old school stuff. (i.e. Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, the Stones, Janet Jackson, even Beyonce!)<\/p>\n

Have you ever seen Anthony Kiedis and Jason Schwartzman together?<\/p>\n

THE GAME ITSELF<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"superbowl-xlvii-at-metlife-stadium_original1\"<\/a>As a Peyton Manning fan, and a Richard Sherman hater<\/em>, (the ball player, of course; not my pal, the Disney composer,) this was my least favorite Superbowl ever.<\/p>\n

I’m such a fan of class, so therefore, I’m pro-Peyton and totally anti-Richard Sherman.<\/p>\n

I’m happy for Russell Wilson, the lovely kid quarterback for the victorious Seattle Seahawks, but oh so miserable for not just Peyton, but the Broncos organization in general, and a couple of the players in specific, such as Champ Bailey, who’s been playing for fifteen years, and Demaryius Thomas, whose mother and grandmother have been in jail on cocaine charges for the past fourteen years or so.<\/p>\n

That very first horrible misstep for the Broncos, resulting in a safety, (which was the quickest score in Superbowl history,) was, indeed, a portent of things to come for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n

Something just seemed off about Peyton’s face from the get-go. He had kind-of that deer-in-headlights look working throughout the game. If this had been a movie, that look would have told us that someone was holding his family hostage so that he’d throw the game. It was hard to watch. (As was the entire game!)<\/p>\n

Is it ironic that Russell went to Peyton’s football camp when he was younger?<\/p>\n

Russell’s so classy and mature; every sports guy conduct himself like he<\/em> does. When Terry Bradshaw was running the ceremony after Wilson’s team won the last<\/em> game to make it into the Superbowl, off-camera Russell asked Terry what it would take to win the big one! Usually these guys are just going crazy with what just happened on that field, (remember Richard Sherman’s offensive rant right after that game?,) and aren’t thinking ahead, so it was uber-commendable of this second year Seahawk to seek-out advice from one who’s been there, done that so many times.<\/p>\n

I sort-of love the fact that Russell’s short. And he looks a lot like my favorite friend, Ronnie Hazel, Jr., so, of course I’ve got to love him!<\/p>\n

In-depth analysis, eh? But you can get that on any sports<\/em> site; you have to come here<\/em> to get the real<\/em> skinny on the uplifting, and painful, moments. And on everyone’s behavior, too.
