Hi Shelby.

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write to me! You must be soooo proud of your husband! What a prolific, talented man he was! You must hear his songs running through your head all the time!

And, about the songs--I just meant that this particular production should maybe cut the show a bit because it gets very long in that small, hot space, not that any songs were not good.

And, by the way--my brother is a Broadway musician who played in City of Angels. He loved doing that show!

If you live here in LA, or visit for a bit, I think that you will appreciate this version of On The Twentieth Century, (which I'm going to be singing in my head again now!) I'd love to hear your thoughts again if you see it.

That was a great review. I can't wait to see it. I have a close relationship with the show as my late husband, Cy Coleman, wrote the music. So I can't quite agree with the idea of "cutting a song or two. I dare you to pick the song to cut! Ha! I think Hal Prince (the original director) and Cy (who was willing to cut whenever necessary) would have if they could have. The movie, which I too adore, was based on a play. The show was based on both. I am so glad you enjoyed the show. I recently saw it with Kristen Chenowith on Broadway and she knocked it out of the park! It wasn't too long a year ago on Broadway, so I think it might have been the heat (ha). But I will know better after I see it! I too sing the score a lot, especially "I Rise Again". Betty and Adolph were amazing lyricists (and 2 of my favorite people). Again, I loved the review. Very thoughtful and made me want to go see it! All best, Shelby Coleman
