I hear ya! Take note of THIS one for NEXT year!: Pasadena Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker at the historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse. It has two final performances tomorrow, Sunday, for this year. My friend and I saw it today and it was really lovely. My review will be up on Monday, but if you can, see it tomorrow.

BUT the dancers barely even dance this year and when they did, the choreography was below basic at best. What a complete waste of talent. Either ABT has the worst artistic director/ choreographer known to man or they’re living off a past legacy that’s clearly dead. Such a waste of time and money. Beyond disappointed- I’m insulted.

I went Wednesday night, and it was awful. :( We were surrounded by crinkling wrappers, eating, drinking, talking, and wiggling children the entire second act. It definitely ruined the experience. I thought the sets could have been better too (you’re right about the tree!). I loved the gorgeous night sky backdrop with the stars at the end though. Overall, it was a bit underwhelming. I expected so much from an ABT production and was very excited to get tickets, but I preferred the Nutcracker I saw at the Long Beach convention center back in 2019. Maybe ABT used a lot of amateur dancers to save money? I wouldn’t see this Nutcracker again.
