SKATE FOR EVAN’S SAKE

I’m about to tell you about something that is very near and dear to my heart, so I’m really asking you to please pay attention to this, especially if you’re in Ohio.  I promise to make it brief.

It’s a fun and important fundraising event for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The lovely Evan Tracy, in whose memory this fundraiser is. If the big pic at the top of the page doesn't tug at your heart strings, I hope this one does the trick!

First the quick background: Sheila Tracy, one of my dearest friends, (who’s also one of the few kind people I know, and the absolute smartest one, even though she denies it,) lost her beautiful, precious daughter, Evan, way too young, when the popular girl was just a teen-ager.  The culprit was Cystic Fibrosis, the insidious disease she was born with.  As soon as my mother heard about it, she became a rest-of-her-life contributor to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in Evan’s memory.

So now, Sheila and Eamonn, Evan’s very interesting and thoughtful brother, (who’s cute, too, and named his dog, Maybelle, after my little mo!,) are putting together a really fun event in their home base of Sunbury, Ohio to raise some funds for the Foundation.  The occasion is to “celebrate and commemorate Evan’s life on what would be her 30th birthday.”

It’s at the Sunbury Skate Rink on Saturday, September 19th from 6-8 PM, which is the perfect time–it’s early enough to include the whole fam, and late enough to begin a Saturday night date!  Food and refreshments will be provided, so it’s a win-win, even if you don’t want to lace up and do some double axels.  (Wait–I think that’s only ice skating! Or is it?)  There will also be an incredible silent auction on-site, with lots of fabulous items.  (I can vouch for their fabulosity because I had a hand in procuring some of them!)

Here are just a few of the highlights of the auction, to whet your appetite.  First, from companies I love: teeth whitening provided by Whitening Lightning; Gerard Cosmetics make-up; a Twiistii creative hair wrap accessory; an adorable Pursecase, in which to house your cell phone and some cash; and hair care products courtesy of Savannah Hair Therapy.  From the show biz gang we have not only a pic of moi, but much more important ones, as well: an autographed head shot and Life Goes On script (the Halloween episode, no less, complete with personal acting notes) from Ray Buktenica, the star of multiple TV series; an autographed headshot from Glee‘s own Breadstix waitress, Jeanine Anderson; and a pic and really cool movie memorabilia from none other than movie star Elliott Gould!  I thank them all for coming through for this very worthy cause.

And, of course, all proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which the Tracys told me does a wonderful job of funding new medicines and treatments.

This beautiful young lady is why we fight Cystic Fibrosis!

As with all charities, for those of you who will not be in or near Ohio that week-end, they will be more than happy to accept outside donations, from the kind and generous peeps out there!  Checks should be made payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and sent one of two ways.  Either snail mail them to 4234 Sunbury Road, Galena, Oh 43021, or do it electronically at gofundme.com/c46edzz6s.  All donations, by any method, are tax deductible.

If you can make it out there, and experience the festivities in person, (which will make me totally jealous of you!,) here are the deets:
