WIMBLEDON 2016 BEGINS TODAY!

I think that regular INAM readers know by now how much I love tennis, especially Wimbledon. But I’m so exhausted from watching every single second of the recent basketball play-offs, plus finally getting caught-up on every Yankees and Mets game that I DVRed all season, that I don’t know how much more sports I can take right now.

xlanding_page_2016_header.png,qitok=al0DNrb4.pagespeed.ic.AqlBS8crI-Not to mention that the Summer Olympics, if not cancelled, as it really should be, because of Brazil’s Zika virus scare, are just about five weeks away. No one loves sports as much as I do, but, for perhaps the first time ever, I may not have the stamina to watch every play of the fortnight. So, as much as I plan to watch every second of the Wimbledon tourney, I don’t know how successful I’ll be this year.

Wimbledon-2016I used to root against just Spain’s Raphael Nadal, because he was threatening my beloved Roger Federer’s all-time Majors record. (By the way, the four big tournaments—Aussie Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open—are really “Majors,” not “Grand Slams.” A “Grand Slam” is when a player wins all four Majors in a calendar year.)  But, in the last few years, Rafa’s star has dimmed, while that of Novak Djokovic has risen.  So now, I have to heavily root against Novak.  I always root for Roger, and I do think that he does have one more Major title in him, but, at his advanced age for tennis, and with him finally having had injuries this year, (he recently had knee surgery, and then pulled-out of the French Open, the first Major he’s missed after a record run of sixty-five in a row!,) I’m worrying big-time.  I really have no one else to love in the sport, of either gender. I’ll never love and respect anyone as much as Roger! It’s just not possible. He just may be the only athlete who has never disappointed me, on any level. I don’t know what I’ll do when he finally retires.

So, for now, I’ll just have to try to relax, and let the action unfold.  And, since there’s always hope until my former self sings, (I was a “fat lady” last year,) I say: Go, Roger!

And please remember to look out for my many Wimbledon tweets during the next two weeks! @MajorCelebrity. They’re usually pretty juicy!
