HOLIDAY: MEMORIAL DAY 2014

MEMORIAL DAY 2014

I’m a bit ashamed of myself for not writing about this “holiday” more in depth than I have in the past. It’s a serious one, and the people that it honors deserve our utmost respect.

imagesI think that most of us in this country, me included, usually think of Memorial Day as simply a day off, and the beginning of summer, both of which it is. But, much more importantly, it’s meant as a time for us to honor the men and women of America’s armed forces who have lost their lives in battle, in service to this country.

So, in-between barbecuing and swimming and visiting festivals, why don’t we all spare a minute to at least think about the people who have died protecting our right to do all those activities? And maybe begin the day by looking-up the history of Memorial Day? It really doesn’t take long, and, after all, how much celebrity gossip is it necessary to read on a holiday week-end?

And, then, go ahead and have some fun. And, most of all, be safe.

If this is really appropriate to say, (which I’m not really sure it is,) have a great Memorial Day, and the whole week-end, as well.

Share.
